According to custom, the president placed a note (presumably a prayer) inside one of the cracks in the wall. Perhaps it was a prayer for peace, or for wisdom in dealing with the vast problems our nation and our world face at this juncture in history.
LORD JESUS, we who trust in YOU, we who believe in YOU, ask YOU to endue this man with wisdom that exceeds his own, with resolve to tackle and to overcome the challenges that face him, that indeed face all humankind.
May YOUR holy name be glorified through this man, not because of who he
is, but because of WHO YOU ARE. In YOUR mighty name we ask, JESUS.
Amen.
