Thoughts on the Events of the Day

Thoughts on the Events of the Day by Dan Parker

This is not a time for frivolity or meaningless ramblings. The storms in Texas and now flooding other places as Harvey moves north east, the fires in Oregon, gas shortages, chaos in our nation, anarchy in our streets, hatred towards fellow Americans, hatred of the Cross and Christianity, and judgement rumbles throughout America.

No sir, it's a time for repentance, introspection, humility, godly sorrow, and praying. Intercessory prayer for our neighbors in Texas who have lost family members.

Many have lost everything in the floods. Tornadoes have demolished homes and property as well. Fires are burning out of control in Oregon. At any moment our streets could erupt into all out fighting and war among our own citizens.

Perilous times are here and we blindly walk headlong into the fray. What will it take to wake us up? What will it take to open our eyes to the dangers we are in?

The earth is groaning and travailing yet we walk on in our pride and arrogance without bowing our knees in repentance.

Are you prepared for the coming judgment? Are you reaching out to bring in as many as you can into the Kingdom? Time is running out my friends. What we do we must do quickly.

Oh I know that people will call me an alarmist, a doomsday preacher, and other adjectives. I am trying to wake up as many as I can before it's too late. Noah was probably called a lot of demeaning names before God closed the door of the Ark.

When the floods came and people began to drown multitudes cried for him to open the door for them but it was too late. God had closed it.

Please search your heart and see if you are ready to meet God. If not, call upon Him, repent, and humble yourself and He will receive you. I am not your judge, He is, so run to Him today.

What ever you do, don't wait too late. Eternity is forever. In heaven nobody will say "you shouldn't have preached to me like that." In hell people will scream at the preachers who lied to them and didn't have the courage to speak the truth in love to them.

God bless you.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14,16

His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:4-5

Suggested prayers ...

Thank you, Lord, that in You America can once again become a "City on a Hill" - Your beacon to the world.

We petition You, Lord, to lead us according to Your plan, in Your timing, with the power of Your Holy Spirit. We know You are infinitely bigger and brighter than the darkness before us.

We ask that You remind us to keep our eyes and minds focused on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise. Help us to elevate conversations and relationships to those higher things. May You be the prompter and completer of any daunting tasks before us. In You only may we find our voice to speak, our strength to move.

We pray for a vision of victory over the assaults on America's faith in You and Your will, Your ways, and Your provision for our needs. Teach us, Lord how to best fight efforts to separate this country, culture and people from You. Give us revelation power to lead our country back to You.

God in heaven, we pray that America may once again become a great beacon of Your standards.

As the world sees Your ways and Your love demonstrated in this great country, may all people be drawn to Your Son.

We pray for a compellingly attractive vision for the future of America based on the real America, founded and grounded on eternal truths. Bring us back, O Lord, to our First Love.

“We live in an age of science and of abounding accumulation of material things. These did not create the Declaration. Our Declaration created them. The things of the spirit come first. Unless we cling to that, all our material prosperity, overwhelming though it may appear, will turn to a barren sceptre in our grasp. If we are to maintain the great heritage which has been bequeathed to us, we must be like-minded as the fathers who created it. We must not sink into a pagan materialism. We must cultivate the reverence which they had for the things that are holy. We must follow the spiritual and moral leadership which they showed. We must keep replenished, that they may glow with a more compelling flame, the altar fires before which they worshiped.” President Calvin Coolidge

"Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins immaculate blood of the lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thy son, Jesus Christ." George Washington's daily prayer

Polish Government Signs Accord with Gdansk Shipyard Workers

On this day in 1980, representatives of the communist government of Poland agreed to the demands of striking shipyard workers in the city of Gdansk. Former electrician Lech Walesa led the striking workers, who went on to form Solidarity, the first independent labor union to develop in a Soviet bloc nation.

In July 1980, facing economic crisis, Poland’s government raised the price of food and other goods, while curbing the growth of wages. The price hikes made it difficult for many Poles to afford basic necessities, and a wave of strikes swept the country.

Amid mounting tensions, a popular forklift operator named Anna Walentynowicz was fired from the Lenin Shipyard in the northern Polish city of Gdansk. In mid-August, some 17,000 of the shipyard’s workers began a sit-down strike to campaign for her reinstatement, as well as for a modest increase in wages. They were led by the former shipyard electrician Lech Walesa, who had himself been fired for union activism four years earlier.

Despite governmental censorship and attempts to keep news of the strike from getting out, similar protests broke out in industrial cities throughout Poland.

On August 17, an Interfactory Strike Committee presented the Polish government with 21 ambitious demands, including the right to organize independent trade unions, the right to strike, the release of political prisoners and increased freedom of expression. Fearing the general strike would lead to a national revolt, the government sent a commission to Gdansk to negotiate with the rebellious workers.

On August 31, Walesa and Deputy Premier Mieczyslaw Jagielski signed an agreement giving in to many of the workers’ demands. Walesa signed the document with a giant ballpoint pen decorated with a picture of the newly elected Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla, the former archbishop of Krakow).

In the wake of the Gdansk strike, leaders of the Interfactory Strike Committee voted to create a single national trade union known as Solidarnosc (Solidarity), which soon evolved into a mass social movement, with a membership of more than 10 million people.

Solidarity attracted sympathy from Western leaders and hostility from Moscow, where the Kremlin considered a military invasion of Poland. In late 1981, under Soviet pressure, the government of General Wojciech Jaruzelski annulled the recognition of Solidarity and declared martial law in Poland.

Some 6,000 Solidarity activists were arrested, including Walesa, who was detained for almost a year. The Solidarity movement moved underground, where it continued to enjoy support from international leaders such as U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who imposed sanctions on Poland.

Walesa was awarded the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize, and after the fall of communism in 1989 he became the first president of Poland ever to be elected by popular vote.

True Repentance

True Repentance by Os Hillman

"Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death." II Corinthians 7:10

What does it mean to repent? When you or I wrong another person, or we sin against God, do we simply say we are sorry and move on?

A few years ago I was involved in a business situation that taught me a great lesson. A client severely wronged me and ultimately took our company for $160,000. In a court of law, I probably would have won the dispute. However, after I had already filed suit against the man, I realized that there was one aspect of the matter that I was wrong about, involving a third party that could no longer be held accountable. I could not effectively resolve the matter without taking the first step in owning the responsibility for my part in the matter.

I made a decision to drop the lawsuit. However, after calling my attorney, I discovered the client had already filed a counter suit. This made the situation even scarier. I was completely exposed if I dropped my suit.

I was unable to reach the business owner because he would not return my calls. I got his secretary on the line. "I want you to take this message down and give it to your boss, word for word. Please do not change the words at all. 'I have sinned against you. I know I do not deserve your forgiveness, but I ask your forgiveness for filing the lawsuit against you. You are no longer obligated to pay the balance you owe me if you feel you do not owe it.' " The secretary knew me and the gravity of what I was saying. She began to weep. She could not believe what she was hearing.

A few hours later I received a call from this client. He said, "I received your message. I accept your request and I forgive you." He dropped his counter suit. A few days later, I went to see the man and had dinner with him. He did not offer to pay any of the balance. It took three years to pay the vendors related to this situation. It was difficult because I knew he was not taking any responsibility for his contribution to the problem. However, I knew I was to let go of it. The Lord was glorified in this situation and He provided for my needs.

Is there anyone you need to seek forgiveness from?

Acknowledging our sin is the first step. Humbling ourselves and taking actions to restore is the next step.

Suggested prayers ...

Teach us, Lord, to value our role as citizens. Awaken in the electorate a desire to know the true principles upon which this country was built, and draw us to Your vision for the restoration of our beloved country.

Let us never take for granted the free land You have given us. Please show us, Lord, how to do our part to secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and those to come.

We ask for leaders and a citizenry who truly understand our accountability before You for every vote we cast, or do not cast. Help us to wisely evaluate every candidate and policy against your Word. We ask for the wisdom to vote as You would have us vote.

We ask You to grant our citizens the wisdom to discern truth from spin and deception. Give us radar to know when a candidate or policy is counterfeit to the true founding principles and Constitutional roots of this land, borne out of faith in You and Your word.

Move our leaders and our citizens to rightly divide the responsibilities of government vs. the responsibilities of citizens as defined by You.

God Almighty, we plead with you to guide, guard, convict and correct all candidates, campaigns, consultants, political operatives and staff members. We ask You to draw them to integrity before the citizens of this country. Give them the will to honestly place their values and visions before us, free of manipulation and deception. We ask You to expose and defeat those who lie.

We pray, Lord, against the voter fraud that has so crippled our confidence in the electoral process. We ask You to expose and bring to justice those who would undermine free and fair elections. Please help us to restore integrity to the election process in America. Rid our system of corruption, we pray.

O Lord, give me the wisdom and the courage to confidently and winsomely take a stand for Your Truth with my fellow citizens. Use my voice, Lord, I pray.

Thurgood Marshall Confirmed as Supreme Court Justice

On this day in 1967, Thurgood Marshall became the first African American to be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice. He would remain on the Supreme Court for 24 years before retiring for health reasons, leaving a legacy of upholding the rights of the individual as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

From a young age, Marshall seemed destined for a place in the American justice system. His parents instilled in him an appreciation for the Constitution, a feeling that was reinforced by his schoolteachers, who forced him to read the document as punishment for his misbehavior.

After graduating from Lincoln University in 1930, Marshall sought admission to the University of Maryland School of Law, but was turned away because of the school’s segregation policy, which effectively forbade blacks from studying with whites. Instead, Marshall attended Howard University Law School, from which he graduated magna cum laude in 1933. (Marshall later successfully sued Maryland School of Law for their unfair admissions policy.)

Setting up a private practice in his home state of Maryland, Marshall quickly established a reputation as a lawyer for the “little man.” In a year’s time, he began working with the Baltimore NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), and went on to become the organization’s chief counsel by the time he was 32, in 1940.

Over the next two decades, Marshall distinguished himself as one of the country’s leading advocates for individual rights, winning 29 of the 32 cases he argued in front of the Supreme Court, all of which challenged in some way the ‘separate but equal’ doctrine that had been established by the landmark case Plessy v. Ferguson (1896).

The high-water mark of Marshall’s career as a litigator came in 1954 with his victory in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. In that case, Marshall argued that the ‘separate but equal’ principle was unconstitutional, and designed to keep blacks “as near [slavery] as possible.”

In 1961, Marshall was appointed by then-President John F. Kennedy to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, a position he held until 1965, when Kennedy’s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, named him solicitor general.

Following the retirement of Justice Tom Clark in 1967, President Johnson appointed Marshall to the Supreme Court, a decision confirmed by the Senate with a 69-11 vote.

Over the next 24 years, Justice Marshall came out in favor of abortion rights and against the death penalty, as he continued his tireless commitment to ensuring equitable treatment of individuals–particularly minorities–by state and federal governments.

The Great Sign

The GREAT Sign by Gary Monday

In 2007 a man by the name of Frederick Larson released a documentary called The Star of Bethlehem that would quickly become an international phenomenon. With the help of The Passion of the Christ and Braveheart co-producer Stephen McEveety the message spread far and wide and soon Larson was doing speaking tours on the subject in Europe and elsewhere.

Building on prior scholarship from Craig Chester and Ernest Martin, Larson discovered that anyone with access to astronomy software like Starry Night, Stellarium, or Celestia could actually find and witness the biblical Star of Bethlehem and even the possible dates for Christ's conception, birth, greeting by the magi, and crucifixion. We describe some of his findings here, which you can also find on the official website under The Study.

Following its release, amateur Christian astronomers worldwide began probing the skies with Stellarium and similar software looking for more possible signs in the heavens. Discoveries that once would have taken men like Johannes Kepler or Edwin Hubble a lifetime of research, could now be made in weeks or even days.

Soon a pattern of blood moons (lunar eclipses) falling on biblical feast days and coinciding with significant events in Jewish and Israeli history was discovered, which led to a storm of media coverage. Pastors across the nation and worldwide were now pointing their congregations' attention to the skies and to numerous Scriptures that describe future "signs in the heavens".

And then, around 2011, an astonishing and even greater discovery was made: on September 23rd, 2017, an unprecedented astronomical alignment will appear in the sky over Israel that seemingly fulfills a literal word-for-word reading of Revelation 12:1-2 and Revelation 12:5.

The passage describes a heavenly sign where a pregnant woman appears covered in the sun, with the moon at her feet, and crowned with 12 stars. The woman gives birth to a male child who is "caught up" to God. For nearly two millennia biblical scholars have speculated on what this pivotal chapter in Revelation describes, but it may be that our generation is privy to seeing for ourselves. A literal reading of the text tells us seven things that must all be true for a proper and complete fulfillment of the prophecy:

1. It is a heavenly sign, not an earthly occurrence.

2. The sign includes a woman.

3. The woman is pregnant and giving birth to a male child.

4. The male child is royalty.

5. The woman is clothed with the sun.

6. The moon is under the woman's feet.

7. The woman is crowned with 12 stars.

Understanding that the biblical writers did not distinguish between stars and planets as we do today, except that planets were called "wandering stars", the reason there appears to be a perfect fulfillment of Revelation 12 on September 23rd, 2017 is as follows:

Visible over Israel the constellation Virgo (which represents a virgin woman), lying prone, becomes "clothed" with the sun as the sun hovers over the constellation. The new moon rests just below her feet. Her head, which is always crowned by the nine fixed stars of the constellation Leo, becomes crowned with the three "wandering stars" of Venus, Mercury, and Mars to make a crown of 12 stars. Exiting her womb is the planet Jupiter, which in ancient pantheons represented the chief male deity. It is also widely known as the "King Planet". To complete the picture, Jupiter has exited the womb of Virgo after undergoing an extremely rare nine month, or 42-week retrograde motion within the constellation's womb - the exact length of a long pregnancy.

How rare is this sign? Well if biblical chronologies are accurate and the earth is roughly six thousand years old then the sign has actually never happened before. And in fact it won't happen again supposing a future 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth. There was a near fulfillment in 3915 BC, but even that year failed to portray a nine month pregnancy. Only September 2017's alignment appears to fulfill all seven requirements given in the biblical text and amazingly, Jupiter, the very star that represents the male child, is the same star that Larson had previously identified as Christ's star in The Star of Bethlehem. Fittingly, Jupiter, like Christ, is known for its prominent stripes that cover the whole planet (Isaiah 53:5, John 19:1) and its Great Red Spot like Christ's own spear wound (John 19:34, John 20:27).

The sign of Revelation 12 stands out from other biblical signs because the text actually calls it "a great sign" - contrasting it with perhaps "lesser" signs. It is intriguing that when describing the time shortly before His return Jesus also predicted "great" signs in the heavens:

There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. - Luke 21:11

Could Jesus have perhaps been referencing this very sign - the sign that John saw in Revelation 12?

In the last few months even more pieces of the puzzle have been falling into place as it was discovered that the image of the woman in labor is routinely employed throughout Scripture as the chief symbol of the coming Day of the LORD - the Tribulation (Micah 5:1-3, Isaiah 13:6-9, Isaiah 26:16-21, Matthew 24:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:3; see also Romans 8:22 and Genesis 3:15-16). And now, as of just a few weeks ago, the woman is finally pregnant and only months away from giving birth to the child.

How incredible is it that this possible sign occurs in the very year that will be 120 years from the First Zionist Congress (Genesis 6:3), 100 years from the Balfour Declaration (Genesis 21:5), 70 years from the U.N. decree to reestablish Israel (Psalm 90:10, Jeremiah 29:10), and 50 years from the Israeli conquest of Jerusalem (Leviticus 25:10-11)?

Genesis 6:3 - God warns that 120 years remain until the Flood begins.

Genesis 21:5 - Abraham was 100 years old when the son of promise (Isaac) was finally born.

Psalm 90:10, Jeremiah 29:10 - A generation is 70 years long and the Israelites were in captivity for 70 years.

Leviticus 25:10-11 - The Year of Jubilee in the fiftieth year, which is the year the captives go free.

We've discussed at length the sign itself, but what might the sign mean? While not addressing the sign's possible occurrence in 2017, Dallas Theological Seminary scholar Michael Svigel argues at length that the sign in Revelation 12 was always the original and preeminent symbol of the pre-tribulational rapture of the Church.

The entire Revelation 12 passage describes a woman, a child, and a dragon. A superficial reading of the text instantly brings to mind Mary, Christ, and satan, which is certainly a significant, prophetic parallel, but there is more to it than that. The sign represents both individuals in a historical context, but also larger, corporate entities. Biblical scholars have always understood the woman to represent Mary as an individual, but corporately the nation of Israel.

Likewise, the dragon clearly represents satan as an individual, but also the entire world system opposed to God. However, while the same scholars have observed that the male child is a symbol of Christ, they've missed the pattern. Just as the woman and dragon have corporate meanings, the male child does, too - it is the collective body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12). An important clue to this parallel meaning is that the child in Revelation 12 is described as being raptured (harpazo in the Greek; same as 1 Thessalonians 4:17), whereas Jesus ascended - two very different meanings.

Harpazo has at its core the meaning of a sudden and violent seizure by force to remove someone from harm's way. Svigel gives more light to this:

The Male Child is “Snatched Up.” The word in Revelation 12:5 is the word for “rapture,” harpazo, and always means a sudden removal, a snatching. In contrast, for the ascension of Christ, the New Testament uses terms such as “to be lifted up,” epairo (Acts 1:9), “to ascend,” anabaino (John 20:17; Ephesians 4:8-10) and “to take up,” analambano (Mark 16:19; Luke 1:11). These are neutral terms meaning a removal from one place to another.

Revelation 12:5 has the male child being suddenly snatched away from the dragon, who wants to devour the child. The ascension of Christ was gradual (Acts 1:10), not sudden. Also, Revelation 12:5 is a context of “rescue” from the threat of the dragon. The word “rapture,” harpazo, is appropriately used in the New Testament for a rescue in Acts 23:10 and Jude 23. In His ascension to heaven, Christ was not rescued, but ascended victoriously and was in no danger from the devil or anybody else.

The term “rapture,” harpazo, is never used of Christ’s ascension to heaven. Thus, the use of harpazo in a rescue context like Revelation 12:5 is completely inappropriate to describe the ascension of Christ, but is completely appropriate to describe the rapture of the church as a rescue from Satan’s emerging efforts to destroy the church as we approach the end times.

It seems then that Revelation 12:5 describes the rapture of the Church and therefore the possible sign in September 2017 could indicate that the rapture of God's children is imminent. Could the rapture actually happen on September 23rd? Perhaps, or perhaps shortly before or after. This is speculative, but it is also very hard to ignore just how accurately this alignment appears to fulfill the words in John's vision.

September 23rd also happens to be Rosh Hashanah, The Feast of Trumpets, which begins around sunset the day before. There are seven biblical feasts (Leviticus 23:4-44) and Jesus fulfilled the first four in order:

The Feast of Passover - fulfilled by His death

The Feast of Unleavened Bread - fulfilled by His sinless life and burial

The Feast of First Fruits - fulfilled by His resurrection

The Feast of Pentecost - fulfilled by Jesus sending the Holy Spirit to indwell the Church

The very next feast in chronological order is The Feast of Trumpets, which happens to fall on September 22nd and 23rd in 2017 - when the possible sign occurs. On top of all this, other reasons have been given why the Tribulation might possibly run from 2017 to 2024 including the fact that this time period is demarcated by two total solar eclipses. This is certainly the season of Christ's return and the signs appear to be plentiful.

There is also speculation that God is signaling His people: first because of a strange chain of events that began occurring shortly after the pregnancy began (when Jupiter entered Virgo's womb) and secondly because of the strange circumstances surrounding the election of Donald Trump.

Time will tell. Be prayerful. Be ready.

MARANATHA!
