There should be another September holiday that Americans appreciate as much as Labor Day.
I’m talking about Constitution Day. It is celebrated on September 17 to commemorate the signing of our Constitution in 1787.
Why is the Constitution so important? Because it designed a government
that had sufficient powers to secure our God-given, natural rights; a
government that was otherwise limited in its power; and a government
that would be accountable to the people, who would remain sovereign.
Under the Constitution, America quickly became the freest, most
prosperous nation in human history.
Over the past century, our government has tended to operate less and less in accordance with the principles of our Constitution, and more and more in accordance with opposing principles—principles that favored less limited, even despotic rule by unelected bureaucrats in regulatory agencies.
This is why I wish Constitution Day were better known. It is also why Hillsdale is expanding its already extensive educational outreach effort on behalf of liberty and limited government under the Constitution.
With the specific purpose of increasing our efforts to reach young Americans who have not been provided a proper civics education, we’ve set a goal to raise $300,000 by September 16, the day before our nation’s 230th Constitution Day. This will allow us to kick off three initiatives in particular.
Thank you for your dedication to liberty and the Constitution. I hope you’ll join us in our effort—and in our celebration of Constitution Day on September 17.
Warm regards,
Larry P. Arnn
