Sports Commentary
A lot of fans in Pittsburgh are quite impatient with the fact that the head coach of their team cannot seem to get his act, or the team's act together.
Yes, Mike Tomlin is the youngest coach in NFL history to have won a Super Bowl. Many would argue that his win came upon the coaching of his predecessor. Since then, the Steelers have fallen short of attaining that goal again each year -- to one degree or another.
No one who knows anything about Coach Tomlin will argue against him as a man. He allows his faith in Christ to define him. He spends as much time as any big-name in his field endeavoring to impact the lives of the talented, yet often troubled, young men who come under his tutelage in a way that turns them from the darkness of their background circumstances to the light of success and to the exquisite light of faith in the Man Tomlin calls LORD.
One of his most significant and life-impacting fights is as far away from football as it can be, and that is his contribution to the battle against human trafficking. In a world where the lives of children and young women are being destroyed by this diabolical, multi-billion dollar business, Mike Tomlin is waging war against the existence of this fiendish global monster that is tearing lives apart.
Our hats are off to salute you, Coach Tomlin, for your good heart and for the investment of your time and your resources into a matter that should concern not only every believer in Christ but also every moral and honorable human being.
May more folks who sit in the bleachers of life get involved in the causes that so impact your heart and your efforts. May more people have your determination to end the most heinous of sins.
And may you apply some of your boundless energy to winning football games because Pittsburgh has been without a Super Bowl win quite long enough.
