Insight -- What Lies Ahead by Bill Keller
Bill Keller does not claim to have a prophetic gift but is giving his opinion of what lies ahead in 2020.
-Politics: The man-made institution of politics is inherently evil, playing on man’s basest cravings. However, it is the best system there is to govern the daily lives and activities of large groups of people. It is also why God separated the political leader from the spiritual leader! God allows men to be in power; He is able to raise up men to positions of power and to take men out of power. That is true of all elected officials from local dog catcher to the President of the United States.
With 2020 being a Presidential election year I believe President Trump will be easily re-elected, the Republicans will hold the Senate, and re-take the House.
The historical power of the incumbency, the strong economic numbers, the partisan impeachment effort by the Democrats, and the far-left ideology and anti-American values of several high profile politicians, all will come together to produce what looks like today a clean sweep of power by the Republicans for at least for the next two years.
-Economy: World events totally outside the control of any people in this country can dramatically affect our economy almost overnight. Like never before in history, the global economy is not just very real, but also very dangerous since once again, bad decisions and policies in other countries can affect our economy here in the US no matter how strong it may be.
In reality, the fact is people in power around the world have a vested interest in not allowing any of the world’s economic powers falter to the point it hurts the economies of other major nations. That reality should keep our strong economy humming along during 2020.
-2nd Amendment: We are sadly going to see a real fight over gun ownership. Starting in Virginia, plus New York, California, and no doubt some others, states with Democratic governors and legislatures will be passing what will probably be deemed in the end un-Constitutional anti-gun laws. There is no more hiding the fact that there is a percentage of people who want to confiscate the guns of law abiding citizens. To what extent they will try to accomplish this will determine how ugly this gets. If there are literally agents of the state going to someone’s house to take away their lawful firearms, there is going to be violence. This actually sounds like the exact reason the founder put in the 2nd Amendment!
-Life: 2019 was the year of life. Never before have we had such real movement in the restriction of abortion in the nation. There is for once, a real possibility that Roe vs. Wade will be overturned. Don’t forget if that would happen it sends the issue back to the states and my guess is 30 states would still perform abortions and 20 states would prohibit all abortions. Even if abortion was totally outlawed in the country, it would still exist. Like salvation, we must ultimately change hearts one at a time!
-Technology: Technology will continue to astound us. The common thread is that all technology is internet based. It is now apparent that anything you do online through a computer, tablet, phone, TV, or other devices, is designed to acquire every ounce of information possible. We also know that all of those mountains of information are exposed to hackers as is any device you use that is connected to the internet.
-Sadly, despite a roaring economy and a mature, advanced society, raw violence will be seen throughout the United States in 2020. We will be witnessing the manifestations of the spiritual decline that has occurred over the last 50 years. Evil will always rise up to occupy the space goodness once held!
-Church: As 2020 unfolds, in the United States we will see a further rise of the “fake church” I have spoken about during 2019. These are churches who claim to be the true followers of Jesus Christ, yet operate in complete rebellion to our Lord and His Word! We saw what is in store as during the final days of 2019 we got word of the split in the United Methodist Church over gay marriage and homosexuality. The good news in 2020 is that those churches who truly are following the example of a New Testament church, those faithful congregations will flourish as people become even more hungry for real hope, real truth, and real answers!!!
-Evangelism: Unfortunately, evangelism will continue to be far, far down on the list of priorities in most churches. ALL churches and ministries declare their desire to “save the lost.” However, saying it and using their various resources to only reach out to people who are already Christians tells the story of their lack of commitment to evangelism!
-Persecution: In a culture that continues to spiral downward spiritually, there will be more and more persecution, and more and more persecution involving actual violence against Christians. We will still be nowhere near what our brothers and sisters in Christ in other parts of the world face, but I believe persecution will be good for the US church. It will force people who are playing games to flee, and embolden those who are true followers of our Lord!
-Worldwide church: Three words, growth, darkness, and persecution. The church is growing in South America, Africa, various Asian countries, and Iran of all places! Amen! The darkness in Europe continues, though there are some cracks of light in places like Hungary. I also believe with the election of Boris Johnson and Brexit finally happening, England may begin to see a spiritual renewal. Sadly, the real persecution of Christians in several Muslim dominant countries in Africa and Asia, North Korean, India, and China continues to be even worse during 2020.
-Culture: The overall theme of our culture in 2020 will be a further entrenchment of the God-denying, Christian-hating majority who will continue to work to silence, marginalize, and eventually destroy Christians. The culture will continue to push its’ Godless agenda including the continued normalizing of sexual deviancy. Look for every type of perverted “marriage” to explode in 2020 and a deepening acceptance of pedophilia. It will be in that deepening darkness that followers of Christ will have the opportunity to shine our lights bright for the Lord. OUR LIGHT SHINES THE BRIGHTEST IN THE DARKNESS!!!
-Culture of death: While we are seeing real meaningful victories and actual measured movement in the area of abortion as Roe turns 47 this month, we will be seeing the expanded movement to take life at the other end of the spectrum. Doctor assisted suicide and euthanasia will explode throughout the nation in 2020 as killing old people will become much more palatable and accepted as the months of 2020 go by.
-Unprecedented filth and crime: What began in 2019 that shocked people, will become more normative in 2020. Major cities and towns across the nation will continue to accept the incredible rise in the homeless population and the public health issues it represents. We will also be seeing across the nation a relaxing in prosecuting crimes such as drugs, prostitution, theft, and other “low level” offenses.
There will also continue to be a push to do away with cash bonds, letting people charged with crimes back on the street instead of being held pending trial if they can’t secure their court appearance and minimize the threat they may pose to the community with a bond.
There will also be a continued move to let people out of prison early. ALL of these “criminal justice reforms” will do nothing but make our communities less safe for the law-abiding citizens.
-Suicide and drug overdose: A byproduct of a Godless culture is hopelessness. Hopelessness is the driver to addictions of all kinds and ultimately suicide. Unfortunately, the manifestation of our Godless society in 2020 will be the continued epidemic of deaths by drug overdoses and other forms of suicide!
