View of Motherhood

"Having children cost me my dreams." Michelle Obama

Mothers' Day is approaching. It is a good time to reflect upon your own feelings about motherhood and its impact on your life. There are two essential perspectives.

The first is that of Mrs. Obama, that becoming a parent has an incalculable price tag, that bringing children into the world requires great personal sacrifice.

While it is difficult to comprehend how MO arrived at that conclusion in her own case, given that she has graduated from amazing schools, held extremely well-paying jobs, been elevated to the position of first lady of the United States, and become a millionaire many times over, it is true that some women do lay their dreams on the altar of motherhood.

The second perspective is that becoming a mother is the fulfillment of a woman's intended purpose, that her rearing of her children places her finger on the pulse of the future and gives her a ticket into tomorrow.

How do you see motherhood?

How do you feel about the sacrifices you must make to advantage your offspring? Do you see yourself as the victim of an unfair division of roles between the parents of children?

Or do you see yourself as a voyager into the future through the lives of your children?

The WORD OF GOD, which should be your ultimate authority on the topic states clearly that you are to be honored for your role of helping to create new life.

If you believe the assessment of the HOLY ONE, you will step into each new challenge, each new sacrifice, each new morning as an opportunity to experience the presence and power of GOD upon the holiest of tasks -- preparing the young people who have been entrusted to your care for not only their tomorrows but for their eternity.
