Everyday Heroes

 Everyday Heroes

We should take the time to ponder and to honor the people who are everyday heroes in our lives, the unsung people of great significance whose contributions to life go largely unnoticed.
One everyday American Hero that we need to honor are police officers.
We want to thank the officers who carry teddy bears or toys in their squad car for when they encounter scared children at crime scenes.
We want to thank the police officers who helped the children who got caught in a rain storm while playing to make sure they get home safely.
We want to thank the officer who led a small neighborhood parade with his patrol car on the Fourth of July during COVID, when all other parades were canceled, so that the neighborhood kids had some sense of normalcy.
We want to thank the officers who regularly give up a Saturday afternoon to attend a community event and let the kids sit in their squad cars and work the lights and sirens.
We want to thank the officers who participate in the “Adopt a Cop” program and take needy children shopping during the holidays.
We want to thank the countless officers who had to stand at their friend’s funeral and listen to the “Last Radio Call” go over the police radios for a fallen officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. And we thank those officers who were unable to answer that final call.
Maligning police officers is quite common today but for every cop who deserves criticism there are thousands who deserve our praise and our respect. May we allow ourselves to offer that positive recognition to those who contribute so much to our safety and well-being.
Who are the everyday American heroes in your life? Please tell them how much you value them.
