God is not an ‘Indian giver.’ We remember from our history lessons the incidents in the settlement of our country where transactions were made with the Native Americans that fell through when the newcomers were ready to forge into the territory that had been promised to the original occupants in perpetuity.
Our Heavenly Father is totally unlike us. The best of us may slip into an unseemly behavior—whether it be reneging on a contractual obligation such as a business transaction or a marriage vow, or allowing a blasphemous word to cross our lips while telling a joke—but the Lord’s integrity is always maintained.
In matters as divergent as the land He promised forever to His chosen people Israel, or His promise of salvation to whomever would receive His ‘unspeakable gift’, our God is honorable, faithful, and true. We can bank on Him. We may confidently place our trust in the steadfastness of His Word and in the endlessness of His love.
A promise toward that end is found in I John 2:27 where the beloved Apostle declares, “The anointing you received from Him remains in you…His anointing teaches you about all things.” Once salvation is received, the Holy Spirit sets about to instruct the believer in truth so he may ever be a faithful witness for Jesus.
