Another Attack

Another attack on police officers.
Three officers dead.
Others wounded.

Another angry man who vented his hatred against injustice by mowing down honorable men who were trying to uphold justice.

When did we become a nation of vigilantes who take matters into our own hands?
When did we become judge, jury, and executioner?
When did we abandon our belief in the law?
When did we put our desire for revenge above GOD'S immutable law that says, "Thou shalt not kill"?

Our police force is made up of good people whose job is to protect other good people from lawlessness. There are certainly those among them who have breathed the rarefied air of power and have abused it, but lashing out indiscriminately does not bring the renegade to justice.

But it does bring citizenry as a whole to a fear of what the next wanton act will be...and it brings those sworn to uphold the law to a fear of what might befall them simply because they wear a badge.

The lyrics to the old Bobby Dylon song, "IT AIN'T ME, BABE," just may be reverberating through the minds of police officers right now:

You say you're lookin' for someone
Never weak but always strong,
To protect you an' defend you
Whether you are right or wrong,
Someone to open each and every door,
But it ain't me, babe,
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe,
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe…
I'm not the one you want, babe,
I will only let you down…
You're lookin' for someone…
Someone who will die for you an' more,
But it ain't me, babe,
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe,
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe… You say you’re lookin’ for someone
Who'll pick you up each time you fall…
An' to come each time you call…
But it ain't me, babe,
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe,
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe.

We want the officer to be strong, to be there for us, to defend us, to lay down his life for us...but we're making it very difficult for anyone to want to be behind the badge.
