LOVE
There are many scriptural admonitions to love.
The WORD of GOD admonishes us to love and honor our parents.
The immutable truth of the BIBLE conveys the importance of loving our spouses and children.
We are, of course, compelled to love GOD who first loved us and gave HIS SON to redeem us from the power of sin.
We are even told that we must love our enemies.
But, GOD has cautioned us against a love that so many of us have allowed to entangle our hearts...HE HAS TOLD US THAT WE MUST NOT LOVE THE WORLD.
"The lust of the eyes, the pride of life," can easily ensnare our imaginations. We desire wealth and the things it can enable us to attain. We desire power to assert our will over our neighbors. We cling to the allure of everything the world offers as a reward to those who serve its purposes.
And these are the things the HOLY ONE tells us that we must disdain.
