Thoughts from Dr. Wecht

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Former Allegheny County Commissioner and Allegheny County Coroner and Medical Examiner for the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, Dr. Cyril Wecht says COVID-19 shutdowns and quarantines are destroying not only the economy but also academia, religion, sports and business.
“We are absolutely destroying our society, our civilization,” said Dr. Wecht, during the KDKA Radio Morning Show on Friday.
The forensic pathologist says the measures are not sustainable, in an op-ed for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this week.
“I lived through Polio and Tuberculosis, and the HIV/AIDS situation, various flu epidemics, Ebola and Zica, and SARS and MERS. We’ve never behaved liked this. This is absolutely too much,” Dr. Wecht explains.
He believes it is time to end restrictions and quarantines and get back to living while at the same time protecting the most vulnerable.
“In the 2018-2019 season, we lost 61,000 people to the flu. Now, that’s less than the 78,000 or so that have died thus far due to corona, but still not an insignificant number, and we did not close shop,” Dr. Wecht adds.
