Can She Forget?

"Can a woman forget the child at her breast? Yes, they may forget, yet will I not forget you." Isaiah 49:15

There was a time when a mother's love would have been considered the strongest block in the foundation of a person's life, but, unfortunately, that is not necessarily so today.

We live in a time when a child might be aborted by its mother because his conception was not expedient. Perhaps she is in school and wants to complete her education before experiencing parenthood. Perhaps she is unmarried. Perhaps she simply does not want the responsibility of rearing a child.

We live in a time when mothers in some parts of the world indoctrinate their children in a culture of death, assuring them that to die in the act of murdering their fellow man is to assure them a place in paradise.

We live in a time when the demands of day-to-day life may necessitate that a woman fulfill the obligation to provide a living, to collect a salary--and being the mother of a young child would curtail her opportunities to earn the money she needs.

In the mind of each one who opts abort the child growing within her, the mother has justified her decision, but God has not.

With the passage of time, conscience may overtake the rational that brought the prospective parent to her decision and she may weep for the child that never had a chance to live.

When that happens, may she realize that as with every sin that humankind commits, there is a place for forgiveness at the foot of the cross of Jesus for those who have had abortions. May she allow herself to be washed free of sin and receive the deliverance Jesus holds out to her.

And may she have the joy of knowing that as a blood-bathed child of the King of kings, she will one day arrive in Heaven to see the face of Jesus, His loving eyes shining warmly as He receives her to Himself.

And the second face she will see will be that of her child, the one she has longed for a lifetime to hold to her breast.
