A Nation of Minute Men

We Need a Nation of Minute Men

John F. Kennedy was a man born to wealth and privilege. He was raised by a father whose expectations of his sons far exceeded those ordinary men place upon their progeny. Joseph Kennedy did not expect his children to rest upon their laurels or to spend their wealth upon themselves. And his children did not disappoint him.

His oldest son, Joseph Kennedy, Jr. was a pilot who was killed when his plane was shot down during WW II.

John Kennedy was a war hero who dismissed his heroism by saying, "It was totally involuntary; they sank my boat." What this flip statement did not convey was the fact that he saved not only himself but swam back and forth to the sinking "PT 109" several times until all injured men aboard were rescued.

The injuries he sustained caused him to endure excruciating pain for the rest of his life. What the public did not know was that their vibrant president was a man who was highly medicated so he could simply endure the pain.

What compelled John Kennedy to demand so much of himself? Why didn't he simply retire to one of the many Kennedy Family estates and salve the pain he felt so profoundly?

The simple answer to that is that the man was a patriot. He loved his country. He spent himself for the United States of America and ultimately, he gave his life for his nation.

It saddens the patriots of today to read his words, "We need a nation of Minute Men," and to realize that some of the profoundest enemies of patriotic Americans today are the men of John F. Kennedy's own political party. Today's Minute Men aren't standing against only enemies from without but also enemies from within.

John Kennedy, the consummate American hero and patriot would be aghast at the policies of those upon whom his mantle has fallen! He would decry the wanton abandonment of the principles that made America great and free by men who would render her weak and in bondage.

May those who value the freedom fought for by a long line of stalwart patriots from the founding fathers who risked their "lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor," for liberty to John F. Kennedy who sacrificed himself on the Altar of Freedom, vow to stand firmly against the encroachment of an overarching government into the Constitutional guarantees that are ours!

If we do not, the precious gift of freedom bequeathed to us by men who cherished it will be taken from us by far lesser men.
