Standing

Standing

We are seeing an increase in the disparaging of our president. The media in particular shows a pointed disregard for Donald Trump and takes every opportunity to portray him in as unfavorable a light as possible.

With their continued haranguing of the President, their goal is to diminish his support and defeat his purposes for the country--namely, to make the nation great again.

Perhaps ordinary citizens should reflect a moment upon the decorum with which previous presidents have been treated, not just by the media but by the public in general. The sense of propriety was pervasive.

A story that reflects the high regard in which the president was held is told of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It was reported that soon after his election to the highest office of the land, Mr. Roosevelt returned to his boyhood home, Hyde Park, where he entered the drawing room to visit his mother for the first time since assuming his high office.

Upon his entering the room, his mother rose from her seat.

The new president said, "Mother, you don't need to stand for me."

Mrs. Roosevelt responded, "I'm not standing for you, Franklin; I'm standing for the President of the United States.
