We are accustomed to wedding parties but a divorce is not something most designate as a cause for celebration. Perhaps the women in Saudi Arabia view the matter differently because they have been subjected to such unfairness and sometimes cruelty in their marriages.

Whatever the ultimate result of this trend may be, it is currently a celebration of the small steps the women of that ancient land have taken toward equality.

JEDDAH: Parties to celebrate divorces have become a trend in the Kingdom as divorced women have become accepted by society. The stigma following women in Saudi Arabia whose marriages have ended has been, at least in part, eradicated.
