Nith Circuit Court Vacancy
Another court vacancy you need to know about
On Thursday of last week, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Judge Stephen Reinhardt passed away. He was 87. Justice Reinhardt was nominated to the court by former President Jimmy Carter in 1980 and was still active on the court until his death.
Reinhardt was the liberal face of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals who was involved in many high-profile decisions over the course of his judicial career. He authored the Ninth Circuit's 2012 decision on Proposition 8, overturning California's state ban on gay marriage. He also joined a ruling to remove 'under God' from the pledge of allegiance, stating it violated the U.S. Constitution. That ruling was later overturned.
Reinhardt's passing leaves a new vacancy on the Court of Appeals, which is one of the federal judicial positions filled through a nomination process by the President of the United States. (Source: MyFaithVotes)
