Christmas Focus
The Christmas season is delightful. It is such a compelling time of the year that even in non-Christian countries, lights are strung and evergreen trees appear in shop windows.
It is easy to get caught up in the commercial, worldly side of Christmas, but increasingly in our society, we see less focus on the true meaning of the day we are celebrating.
How can we who profess faith in the Living Savior assure that we will be able to make a viable contribution toward the correct focus of this holiday?
We certainly are not required to give up the joys of the season that include gift giving and attending choral presentations or delighting in the cookie baking.
What we do need to do is to be mindful of WHO it is that we are celebrating -- although gathering with family and friends is a wonderful time of sharing, it should not be our focus. Our focus must ever be JESUS HIMSELF. HE must be "the reason for the season."
If we do keep our eyes on HIM, we will evidence the importance of Christmas to all those around us. We will show everyone whose life touches ours that our SAVIOR is the heart of our celebration.
And the beauty of our allowing JESUS to be the focus of our holiday is that we may carry that focus into the year ahead. We can make our LORD the heart and soul of all we are and all we hope to be. We can let everyone in our little corner of the world see JESUS in and through us--always.
