Reagan on Evil

How can fear of evil be overcome? Fear is, indeed, one of those emotions that can overtake an individual without his intent.

Personal circumstances, world events, prophetic utterances, things within a person's control and things beyond a person's control can converge against him and bring him to a point of trembling before his own ineptitude in dealing with them.

The Word of God affords insight into how man's proclivity toward fainting before the countenance of evil can be overcome.

First, is the assurance that "perfect love casts out fear." I John 4:18. A person who grasps the reality that the Almighty loves man whom He has created with an unshakable love is anchored in the hope and confidence that perfect love promises him.

Second is the scriptural admonition as to how a man should govern his thoughts. If he dwells upon the negative things confronting him, he will be dismayed and overwhelmed by them, but if he follows the plan the Holy One sets before him, he will find his troubles melting away into the heat of unconquerable truth!

That amazing truth adjures the believer: "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report, if there be any virtue and there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8.

Let us confidently appropriate God's truth so we may stand boldly in the face of evil.
