Service Dogs

Service Dogs

There are some places in the world where dogs are hated. Families moving to these countries have to leave their beloved pets behind when they move because dogs are absolutely not welcome.

In America, dogs are referred to as "Man's Best Friend." The dog has earned this title.

A dog that is raised from puppy-hood will reflect the love and kindness that are lavished upon him. He will enrich the life of his family beyond anything else those fortunate people may possess.

Your return from a brief walk to the mailbox will be greeted with a welcome worthy of that of a month-long trip. Your arrival from work will be met with a lavish display of affection. And your dog, if necessary, will lay down his life for you.

The disabled among us know first hand of the invaluable contributions made by their service dogs. Great respect is accorded to them--they are granted entrance to places ordinary pets may not go.

Nowhere is the willingness of a dog to sacrifice himself for his human seen more clearly than among our military dogs. Countless stories are recounted of times when a soldier's dog put himself in harm's way to protect the people for whom he was responsible.

At this time of extending our thanks to the servicemen and veterans of our nation, let us remember to appreciate their faithful, furry comrades in arms.
