The Body

The Body

"Our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where He wants it. There are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, 'I don’t need you.' The head can’t say to the feet, 'I don’t need you.' In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary...If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are honored. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it." I Corinthians 12:18-22,26,27

The human body is an amazing thing. Its functions are myriad. Its abilities are mind boggling. Yet, we take them for granted. Fingers flying over a keyboard fill an empty screen with words that can lift men up or tear them down. Hands can minister health and wholeness to the broken or they can be implements of death to the whole.

The human mind can conceptualize amazing things. Consider that a mere hundred years ago there were no such things as airplanes or rocket ships to soar through the heavens, or superhighways to afford expeditious travel via motor cars.

Marvel at the miracle drugs that can restore health to the sufferer of a multiplicity of afflictions that assail the body; wonder at the ability to communicate across miles of distance in a fleeting second of time.

Yes, the human --mind, spirit, soul-- is wrapped in a body that is beyond amazing to contemplate, beyond marvelous to behold in all its splendor. If there were not majestic mountains, if there were not imposing deserts, if there were not billowy clouds to sweep across the sky, if there were not the sun, moon and stars to illumine the sky, we would still have the unfathomable human body to fill our minds with wonder.

And the Holy One who fashioned us and made us His highest creation has not only given us a body that reflects His glory but He has given us a mind that longs to rest in Him.

He has given us a free will that empowers us to choose where we will abide throughout eternity. He has given us the ability to "Choose you this day whom you will serve." Joshua 24:15

May we say as did Joshua, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15

With our minds and bodies, may we serve the Lord Jesus Christ today, so our spirits and our new bodies may abide with Him forever. (See II Corinthians 5:1,2.)
