The Last Days

The 'Last Days' have been anticipated since the Apostles of Christ warned that His return would be soon. Indeed, with the persecution of Christians that was carried out by the Romans, believers of that day had every reason to believe that the end of days was upon them.

And perhaps, in a broad sense, they were. The Bible makes it clear that time is irrelevant to God. It says, "A day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are as a day to Him." II Peter 3:8
And further, the arch-foe of the Lord has no idea when Jesus will put an end to all his evil machinations, so the enemy of all God's purposes has had an antichrist ready through the Christian Age to step into the role assigned to him in the last days, should this day be the last day.

In the days when Rome was the chief persecutor of Christians, paganism reigned within the Empire and Caesar was considered a god. We know when the antichrist appears, he will again set himself up to be god.

Perhaps the irony is that the antichrist system that was in place at the inception of the Christian age so closely parallels the one that will be in place at the time of the Lord's return. The enemy's assertion, "I would be like the Most High," Isaiah 14:14, reveals his intent to deceive mankind into believing him to be god--all to the end that he receive worship, which is due only to God Himself.

As Rome's emperor was worshiped, so will be the antichrist--and his deception will have gone full circle.

We live in an age when men "call good evil and evil good." Isaiah 5:20 We live in an age where truth is swallowed into political correctness and moral relativism. We live in an age that is ripe for the delusion that the enemy of the souls of men will bring upon foolish man who has denied the Holy One.

May we allow ourselves to be warned. May we allow ourselves to be enlightened. May we allow ourselves to be saved by the Christ who sets men free from sin and its deception.
