I Have Overcome
Jesus told us point blank that we are going to go through trouble in this life. He said, "In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." John 16:33
Trouble tends to knock us down, punch us out and trample over us as it exits the scene of the attack. In the process of pummeling the believer, Trouble attempts to steal his prized possessions--his hope, his faith, his truth, his love.
But, in
spite of the ferocity of his attack against the man of faith, the one
thing Trouble cannot take from him is the fact that the presence of the
Lord abides with the believer who holds fast to Him.
How then, can the the man of faith ever be accosted and undone?
It goes back to the tribulation that has been foretold. God allows it because it is through trials and troubles that believers come into the fullness of faith, and it is through the tough times that men of God see most clearly the hand of the Holy One moving upon their lives.
When harsh winds blow against the Ship of Life upon the Sea of Tribulation, the believer must employ the formula given by the Master Seaman.
Indeed, he must pray, for prayer is the sea lane that most rapidly attains the Port of Safety at the Throne of Grace.
Indeed, he must believe and speak the truth, knowing that TRUTH lightens the load of the Vessel of Hope.
Indeed, he must make the resolute determination to abide in faith, for faith is the antithesis of fear. The believer who holds fast to faith in the storm need not fear being swept overboard by the tumultuous, mountainous waves that assail him. He stands fast!
The believer under attack relinquishes his control of the wheel of the ship to the Captain, for he knows he cannot of himself guide the craft to safety.
When he has done all, he must, as the Word admonishes, "STAND." Ephesians 6:13
As he stands, he can watch the Almighty God that he serves work in His behalf and he will discover afresh that the winds and waves still know HIS NAME.
