Homeland Security Hints at Taking Over Elections by Bill Wilson

In a headline that is sure to heighten the buzz among conspiracy theorists that believe the sitting "president" will call martial law to remain in office, Homeland Security is considering taking security control over US elections. The Washington Examiner quotes DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson as saying, "We should carefully consider whether our election system, our election process, is critical infrastructure like the financial sector, like the power grid." Does America need heavily armed government guards hovering over our voting process? What does this mean when the first major DHS report of this Administration in 2009 characterized Christian conservatives as right-wing extremists?

On April 7, 2009, DHS issued a report: Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment. That report said, "Conspiracy theories involving declarations of martial law, impending civil strife or racial conflict, suspension of the U.S. Constitution, and the creation of citizen detention camps often incorporate aspects of a failed economy. Antigovernment conspiracy theories and "end times" prophecies could motivate extremist individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition, and weapons. These teachings also have been linked with the radicalization of domestic extremist individuals and groups in the past, such as violent Christian Identity organizations and extremist members of the militia movement."

Reading the DHS report seven years later, it appears like a prophecy of this Administration, characterizing as rightwing extremists those who believe in border security, the Second Amendment right to bear arms, and oppose abortion. The report states: "Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use. Rightwing extremists are increasingly galvanized by these concerns and leverage them as drivers for recruitment." Are these not the very issues discussed in the current election cycle?

If you are pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-border security, pro-limited government, against globalism on sending America's jobs overseas, you are being characterized today as a rightwing extremist, also a bigot and racist. Now the same DHS that established this criteria on behalf of the White House in 2009, is considering "overseeing" US elections for "security" purposes. Is this soft tyranny? Is it designed to bully you against voting for a non-Democratic Party candidate? This intimidation begins at the top. It is how our "president" views those who disagree with his Marxist Islamic beliefs. Hillary Clinton is cut from the same cloth. Proverbs 29:12 says, "If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked."

The Set of Your Soul

This morning's ABC News headline caught my eye: "Dog Swims Over 6 Miles to Reunite With Family After Falling Off Boat in Lake Michigan." The ten-month-old puppy fell overboard, swam to shore, then walked over twelve miles to a campground where she was reunited with her family the next day.

Now consider another story of resilience. Humans have long aspired to go to Mars, but six months of travel and life in claustrophobic conditions make the psychological part of the expedition as daunting as the physical. ICE environments (isolated, confined, and extreme) have long challenged explorers.

That's why six astronauts spent twelve months in isolation on a simulated Martian plain. The three-woman, three-man crew lived in a dome-shaped habitat on a lava plain on the flank of Mauna Loa in Hawaii. They worked in conditions as close to Martian as science could make them. And they proved that humans are often as resilient as we need to be.

To many Christians, our culture feels more Martian by the day. As a recent article noted, "Many conservative Christians just don't feel welcome in their own country. They say they are either mocked or erased in popular culture." One pastor asked, "When was the last time you saw an evangelical or conservative Christian character portrayed positively on TV?"

But God promises, "In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). Scripture enjoins us: "Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9).

Rather than viewing negative cultural shifts as cause for retreat, let's use them to strengthen our commitment to serving Jesus. In this context, consider David Brooks's latest column in The New York Times. In his view, personal strength is a product of personal significance.

He notes that "people are much stronger than they think they are when in pursuit of their telos, their purpose for living."

He quotes Nietzsche: "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how."

Brooks concludes: "We are all fragile when we don't know what our purpose is, when we haven't thrown ourselves with abandon into a social role, when we haven't committed ourselves to certain people, when we feel like a swimmer in an ocean with no edge. If you really want people to be tough, make them idealistic for some cause, make them tender for some other person, make them committed to some worldview that puts today's temporary pain in the context of a larger hope."

Ella Wheeler Wilcox makes Brooks's point well:

Prayer for Our Nation

Prayer for our nation is extremely important as we approach the November election date.

There are strident voices, clamoring for the attention of the voters, insisting there is but one way to vote.

Some professors of faith in CHRIST insist that Hillary Clinton must be elected because she is GOD'S judgement on this nation and she is part of HIS plan to remove this country from the inter-national scene.

Others who believe they 'have a word' from GOD insist that Donald Trump is GOD'S offer of 'a stay of execution,' so-to-speak. They insist that Mr. Trump can temporarily turn back the flood of evil that is engulfing this country.

There are good people, sincere patriots, on both sides of the issue and the consternation of the undecided is perhaps unprecedented.

The one thing all people of faith in CHRIST possess is the power of prayer. Each believer must be on his face before the LIVING GOD, beseeching HIS mercy and grace and guidance as the voter makes his determination regarding his ballot in November.

By submitting himself to the HOLY ONE, the patriot who desires to cast a godly ballot can know--whatever the outcome of the election--that he has sought the will of the LORD in the matter and stepped boldly into the voting booth with the full surrender of his vote to the guidance of the LORD.

If each of us will do that--if each of us will prayerfully seek GOD'S will regarding our vote and then cast our ballot according to HIS leading--our conscience can be clear no matter who takes the oath of office on January 20, 2017.

Do these prophecies describe America? "Everyone is given to covetousness, greedy dogs which never have enough. A Protestant saying is that "the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. An anonymous wit paralleled this, saying the U.S. motto should be, "The chief end of man is to glorify prosperity and enjoy it forever."

A European observer wrote that "desire is enthroned in the mind of the American consumer."

We are immersed in a constant barrage of advertisement. Our whole economy works to stimulate our desire for food, clothing, automobiles, furniture, jewelry, and travel, filling our minds with the "gimmies." It is difficult to resist unless our focus is disciplined toward going in the right direction.

Because of these sins, God calls upon the nations to devour His people. The leaders are blind to the nation's real needs because, instead of speaking out and acting upon moral issues, they are embroiled in their own lusts. While America sinks into the quicksand of that way of life, they proclaim an even better and brighter tomorrow!

Another reason why coveting has the power to destroy the coveter is revealed in the credit purchasing system that dominates the American economy. Buying on credit is based upon the idea of possessing something before one can afford it. Advertising usually accompanies credit, and the two of them together seductively lure the unwary and weak. Yet because of the charges collected by the lender, credit actually makes things even more expensive, causing greater debt!

But, God asks in Jeremiah 6:9-13, who will listen?

People will not listen to such simple wisdom as delaying a purchase to pay in cash to save money.

They will not listen even when told they will be able to make more purchases because they will have more money to spend.

They do not listen because their minds are on their sin, their lust for immediate gratification. The cycle continues onto other sins their covetousness motivates.

As a nation, we are living way over our heads. Covetousness has boomeranged and caught us in a way we never dreamed.

Everyday there is a new poll about the upcoming election. People are concerned when the polls are trending away from their candidates. But don't be alarmed. Polling is a science.

The candidates themselves commission the best polls. They usually know the real story. To accurately reflect the situation, polls must be taken from a random sample; the questions must be asked in a way that do not bias the answer; and there can be no leading of the interviewee in any direction by the one asking the questions.

The polls taken by the news organizations rarely follow these criteria. Their samplings are biased toward what they perceive as a larger Democratic base and the questions are slanted to lead the interviewee.

Last night, I was subjected to a candidate's poll. It didn't even try to mask its bias. The statements it was making about the candidates were incredible.

This poll, I believe, was testing how people react to certain attack themes the campaign wanted to employ against its opponent. They were themes along the lines of racism, bigotry, homophobia, putting guns in the hands of the mentally ill, denying a woman's right to an abortion, and so on.

The questions started out like this: "Would you be more or less likely to vote for Donald Trump if you knew he has supported racism by..." or "Would you be more or less likely to vote for Hillary Clinton if you knew she supported the unequivocal right of a women to have an abortion?"

Some of the themes that were tested were so outrageous that I couldn't help but comment that "while I don't believe that is the case, if it were true, I would be less likely to vote for the candidate."

Even the one asking the questions started laughing at some of my comments because, he, too, knew the test questions were extreme.

The one thing that I saw from this poll that is interesting to note is that the test themes all had a common theme-anyone who would vote for Trump will be labeled a racist and a bigot.

Clinton, from the direction of this poll, appears to be seriously considering cornering the voters and dividing them based on racism and bigotry. If you don't want to be labeled a racist, you better vote Hillary.

This is a longstanding political tactic of the Hegelian Dialectic used by communists to move people from what they think to what they want them to think.

First, there is the thesis, which is your current way of thinking.

Then there is the new thesis, the antithesis which, in this case would be "if you vote for this person you are a racist."

Then there is the synthesis, where you think about this and know that you are not a racist, but maybe people think you are, so you vote in a way that you can say you are not a racist.

Thesis, antithesis and synthesis-that's what these polls are probing.

Discernment is needed to counter these messages so there is no deception.

II Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Exercise your sound mind as led by the Holy Spirit.

Their latest data show an increase of almost 13% since 2015. They can seed clouds, trigger lightning, and penetrate commercial airplanes.

Furthermore, there are studies linking cosmic rays with cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in the general population.

Teach us, Lord, to value our role as citizens.  Awaken in the electorate a desire to know the true principles upon which this country was built, and draw us to Your vision for the restoration of our beloved country.

Let us never take for granted the free land You have given us.  Please show us, Lord, how to do our part to secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and those to come. 

We ask for leaders and a citizenry who truly understand our accountability before You for every vote we cast, or do not cast.  Help us to wisely evaluate every candidate and policy against your Word.  We ask for the wisdom to vote as You would have us vote.

We ask You to grant our citizens the wisdom to discern truth from spin and deception.  Give us radar to know when a candidate or policy is counterfeit to the true founding principles and Constitutional roots of this land, borne out of faith in You and Your word.  

Move our leaders and our citizens to rightly divide the responsibilities of government vs. the responsibilities of citizens as defined by You. 

God Almighty, we plead with you to guide, guard, convict and correct all candidates, campaigns, consultants, political operatives and staff members.  We ask You to draw them to integrity before the citizens of this country.  Give them the will to honestly place their values and visions before us, free of manipulation and deception.  We ask You to expose and defeat those who lie.

We pray, Lord, against the voter fraud that has so crippled our confidence in the electoral process.  We ask You to expose and bring to justice those who would undermine free and fair elections.  Please help us to restore integrity to the election process in America. Rid our system of corruption, we pray.

O Lord, give me the wisdom and the courage to confidently and winsomely take a stand for Your Truth with my fellow citizens.  Use my voice, Lord, I pray.

Human Interest Stories

We love human interest stories that tell us how animals come to our rescue at crisis points in life, how they give of themselves to shield us from harm... yet we often fail to recognize that what we see in and so love in these tales of our rescue is the salvation story.

As St. Augustine said, "LORD, YOU have made us for YOURSELF, and restless are our hearts until they rest in THEE," and the reality is that we are always searching for reminders of our need for CHRIST and HIS amazing rescue of us from sin.

While the tales of man's sacrifices for his fellow man and the stories of animal rescuers are up-lifting and can restore our hope in humanity, nothing can ultimately redeem us but the GREAT RESCUER who came from GLORY to save us from death, hell and the grave.

Let JESUS buy you back from an eternity that is void of hope and bereft of joy. Let JESUS buy you back from the enemy of your soul who seeks only your destruction. Let JESUS own you, for HE alone has paid a great price for you.

When the Romans sacked Jerusalem after the death and resurrection of JESUS and devastated the Jewish Temple, all those records were destroyed. Subsequently, no other person can trace his genealogy as the LORD'S can be traced in the BIBLE.

Nobody can make a viable claim to be the Jewish Messiah--nobody but JESUS.

Because HE is who HE claims to be, because HE is who the BIBLE asserts HIM to be, because HIS HOLY SPIRIT speaks to a searching heart and affirms that HE is the SAVIOR of mankind, you--we--mankind--can claim HIM as DELIVERER from sin and SAVIOR for eternity.

You--we--mankind can trust HIM to calm the storms of life, to set our feet on the Rock of Safety, to robe us in HIS righteousness, and to bear us to the arms of the FATHER at the hour of our death.

Have you ever tried to explain to someone what the word “faith” means? If you have, then you know that it’s a difficult concept to explain. Here’s a story that might help others understand the meaning of faith.

It was a dark night on the main road from Jackson to Vicksburg, Mississippi. It had rained heavily, but the storm had finally broken, and the pavement was not so slippery. A truck driver traveled down that stretch of highway, and since conditions had improved, he began to relax a bit. Suddenly he saw the twin taillights of the car in front of him melt into the road and disappear.

The truck driver sat bolt upright with his startled eyes wide open. Such a thing could not happen! In the next fraction of a second, he saw the gaping black hole where once a bridge had spanned the river. The truck driver slammed on his brakes, and the wheels stopped instantly, but there was no longer a road beneath them. His truck sailed silently and eerily into the black void before him.

As the truck sank into the water, the driver broke out the window, got out of the truck, and managed to swim to shore. Like a dripping scarecrow, he scrambled up the embankment to the road. As he climbed, he heard one car after another zoom smoothly into the gap and disappear. The only trace was a booming splash preceded by startled shrieks or cries.

Finally, the truck driver made his way to the road and frantically waved his hands at the oncoming cars in the dark. But they did not stop. Sixteen people died that night because they had faith in a bridge that was no longer there.

In life, we maintain faith in many bridges—the bridge of successful achievements, the bridge of good deeds, the bridge of “I tried as hard as I could”—but all of these bridges are out.

Faith in Christ is the only bridge we can rely on. It’s the only bridge that will get us across the river of temptation, the river of trial and affliction, the river of sin and guilt, the river of death.

Without the bridge of faith in Jesus Christ, the dark waters would swallow up every one of us.

As a survivor, will you warn others about the bridges that are out? You may be their only signal of the danger ahead.
