Prayer Request for Egyptian Christians (Coptics)

Prayer Requested for Egypt
Cairo, Egypt April 10th , 2017

Friends and family,

Please find below a message from a friend to help bring perspective of what is happening in Egypt and help us to pray.

What I am experiencing in this trip allover Egypt is a great move of the holy spirit and it seems that Egypt is about to have spiritual revolution this time.

The church in Egypt needs the prayer and support of the family of Christ around the world.
Standing in the land of Egypt, trusting the Lord of another miracle of parting todays red sea!

Victor

Dear friends,

Dec. 11 , 2016, a bomb exploded in a church in Cairo, 24 women and children were killed, over 50 were wounded.

Feb. 2017, ISIS declared El Arish, a city in the North of Sinai, Egypt as Islamic city, ordering all 11,000 Christians to leave the city or to be killed.

Within 10 days, 9 Christians were killed, one was burned alive, they cut the throat of another, others were shot in the head in broad day light. After that, out of fear for their lives all Christians left the city.

Today, 9th of April, churches in Egypt were packed celebrating Palm Sunday.

In Tanta, about 60 miles North of Cairo, during the church service a man walked in and placed a heavy bag under a seat near the altar and walked out. Soon after a bomb exploded. 29 were killed including the priest and the choir, 75 were wounded.

Hours later in Alexandria, a suicide bomber explodes himself outside a church, killing 16 and  wounding 33.

What is going on?

The battle in Mosul, Iraq, against ISIS is putting great pressure on the ISIS fighters, thousands of them were killed, many started to flee returning back to where they came from. Over the last 2 years large numbers of young people from Egypt joined ISIS in Iraq and Syria. It is clear that many came back with an ideology which considers anyone who is not like them an infidel that should be killed.

Christians are on top of the list! The other reason for these attacks, which are not new in Egypt, but going on since decades, is the teaching of Al Azhar, the Islamic university and thousands of their schools, which host more than a million students. There they educate students with a hate message towards Christians, the infidels, whom they should not greet, eat with or acknowledge their feasts and celebrations.

When are we going to see an end to the killing and persecution of the Copts, the Egyptian Christians?
Definitely not in the near future. As long as ISIS is spreading their ideology and the Islamic fanatic education is continuing in the country, persecution and killing of Egyptian Christians will not stop.

May God have mercy on our country, and may the prayers of the church beyond our borders be a source of strength to the Egyptian church, which has stood strong against persecution for 14 centuries.
