The changing seasons represent the transitions that occur in the lives of believers.
In the spring of our walk with Christ, we are just beginning to bud. Our new faith has taught us to expect to bloom in the Lord's garden and to become a sweet-smelling savor that rises to His Throne of Mercy and Grace.
In the summer of our Christianity, we experience the wonder of becoming the perfume that is produced when our petals are crushed. How are they crushed? Sometimes by persecution for our faith in Jesus. Sometimes by our own failure to live up to our commitment to Him. But, as we reaffirm our determination to walk with Him, He redeems us afresh from our foibles and failures and makes us worthy to be called by His name.
Autumn comes with its wind and its rain. Much of our accomplishment in the behalf of the Kingdom of Christ is whirled away in the swirling of the blustery gusts of fall, but the fallen leaves are not symbols of our defeat. NO! Rather, they become the blanket to keep His work warm and protected from the onslaught of the winter.
The icy blasts that come with winter may chill us to the bone, but we are safe from the season's wrath because we allow ourselves to be covered by the shadow of His wing. No matter how the wind may blow or how much snow may fall, we bask in the beauty of the season and allow ourselves to refresh and redefine our commitment to our Savior.
And when warmth of the sun melts the winter snow, we go forth to the lost and dying of the world. We take to them the message that we received, and we watch the buds of spring appear again.
