PRAYER
Power has transformed the world we live in. The use of fire to fashion weapons of warfare forged mighty swords and shields and lances and arrows that were employed throughout the Middle Ages.
Later came the discovery of the uses of steel that augmented further the weapons of warfare.
With nuclear energy came a whole new world of products that could revolutionize man's preoccupation with attempting to annihilate himself.
Of course we have the periodic reminder that weather systems are capable of far more devastation in a shorter amount of time than any device of warfare that man has yet produced or conceived of producing.
In the frailty of our humanity, we turn our eyes heavenward and look there for the solution to the world's woes that we cannot seem to achieve through our constant warfare. We turn our eyes to the ONE who fashioned us from the dust of the earth; to the ONE who loves each of us as if we were the only one.
We bow our knee in prayer to HIM who holds the key to peace in HIS hand for HE is "the Prince of Peace," Philippians 9:6. We ask JESUS to move in our midst and to accomplish for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
We ask for the answers to our personal prayers--for our friends, for our marriages, for our children, for our financial security, for our maturity in the things of eternity.
We ask for the answers to the world's dilemma of war and discord. We pray for "peace and security," although we know in our storm-tossed world that as we do, we are inviting "sudden destruction" to come upon us, I Thessalonians 5:3.
But, HE has told us to "pray without ceasing," I Thessalonians 5:17. As we do, we know that in HIS perfect time, HIS perfect answers will come. We know that those we love will be held securely in HIS arms of love. We know that the ONE who "owns the cattle on a thousand hills" will "supply all we need, according to HIS riches in glory," Philippians 4:17.
And we know that if we as HIS people will "humble ourselves and pray and seek HIS face and turn from our wicked ways, then will HE hear from Heaven and forgive our sin and heal our land." II Chronicles 7:14
Even now, perhaps we are merely a prayer away from our breakthrough.
