Commentary on Current Events

Commentary on Current Events by Beth Lynn
I’m teaching Constitutional History this year for my daughter Jillian. One of the most interesting tidbits we have already covered is that the great philosophers disagreed over the structure of government, however, there are common themes that they all held. These were:
1.not everyone should vote
2..not everyone should hold office.
One philosopher held the belief that only those over 50 years of age should hold office due to the phase of development of wisdom they would bring to bear on matters.
More than one warned against the mob being decision makers due to the tendency of the mob to have insufficient understanding of issues and procedures of government and the mob's latent vulnerability to be swayed by propaganda.
Jillian and I have been carefully watching matters unfold this month and have been able to see clearly those very weaknesses as they are exploited.
Unfortunately the same threat has been exploited since the election. The facts are that Trump was duly elected by the correct process. He was put in office primarily as a backlash response to a growing concern that our nation is being eroded in all but name only (our democracy worked to protect the union).
He was elected primarily due to the very process we are in now with the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
People understood the importance of these Supreme Court seats as a means to protect against constitutional erosion. But the mob finds it easier to believe that Russians did it. They take to the streets to protest anything and everything using means and tactics that they simultaneously espouse to be evil.
They have been easily swayed by every piece of propaganda that blows.
Because of the lawlessness and mindlessness of the mob,I have found myself saying frequently of late that a person should have to take some sort of test to be allowed to vote.
