Everyone follows someone. Everyone serves someone. Perhaps the one being emulated resides only in the recesses of our memory, but somewhere along the way, each of us has been touched by the example of another.
For many it was a parent whose example and whose nurturing profoundly impacted who we became as adults. For others, it was a teacher or scout leader or religious instructor whose life made an impact upon who we became.
No matter who we have allowed to influence us --for good or for ill-- there is ONE whose example deserves to be incorporated into the essence of our own lives and that ONE is JESUS.
While people who have played a significant role in our lives have
shaped us into images of themselves, there is only ONE whose impact upon
us can be self-selected or self-rejected.
The contribution to who we are that is made by people who have been significant to our childhood or to a portion of our lives where we were subject to the impact of their influence, what JESUS contributes to our lives can come at any time when we give ourselves over to HIM.
While the power of others to our lives was incidental to our simply living life, the influence JESUS has over us comes with its fullest impact when we open ourselves to it, when we discern the need within ourselves to be transformed from who others have made us to be to who the LORD can make us to be.
When we decide to allow ourselves to become more like HIM, we will reject what has been wrong about ourselves and allow HIM to make our lives a reflection of what is right--for everything about JESUS is right.
May we be so immersed in the HOLY ONE that every other influence of our lives will become lost in the beauty of who we become when we become like HIM.
