"There is no greater love than that a man lay down his life for others." John 15:13
Our military men have been laying down their lives for the cause of our freedom since the Revolutionary War.
What are we doing with that freedom? If those who fought the Revolution so Americans could be free from tyranny could see us today, would they feel their sacrifice had been worthwhile in light of the encroachment of that evil into our government?
What are we doing with that freedom? If those who fought in the Civil
War to free the slaves from evil bondage could see us today, would they
feel their sacrifice had been worthwhile in light of the disregard for
life, the high rate of illegitimacy, the disdain for education, which is
the doorway to opportunity, among many young black people?
What are we doing with that freedom? If those who fought in WW II to stop the advance of totalitarian government across Europe and the world could see us today, would they feel their sacrifice had been worthwhile in light of the stranglehold government is imposing upon the freedoms Americans hold dear?
What are we doing with that freedom? If those who died in Desert Storm and the ongoing conflagration in the Middle East could see the deal with nuclear Iran, would they feel their sacrifice had accomplished a safer world for people who cherish freedom?
MEMORIAL DAY is not about cookouts and beach visits. MEMORIAL DAY is not merely the springboard to summer vacation. MEMORIAL DAY is a time for reflection upon the great price that has been paid for our political freedom.
May we cherish the liberty for which so many have paid so high a price, and while we're calculating its cost may we also remember that without the freedom from sin that CHRIST purchased for us on CALVARY, no other freedom is of long duration.
May we first cherish the ONE who gave HIS life to set us free from the penalty of sin, and then may we cherish those who gave their lives to set us free to worship HIM and to live in peace.
