Mary was the vessel chosen by God to be the Mother of the Messiah, Jesus Christ
She was a godly young woman with a humble, gentle and quiet spirit, and she accepted in humility the will of God for her life.
She didn't regard herself or the difficulties she would have to endure by carrying the Messiah. She rejoiced! She felt honored by God because He had chosen her, a simple maiden to be the mother of the Messiah. She exalted the Lord and praised His name.
In her song, she speaks of God's holiness and mercy, of God bringing down the proud and exalting the humble, of God filling the hungry and sending the rich away empty. Mary's description here is of the just and caring God whom she loved and worshiped.
As she said, in her glorious song, all generations have indeed called her “blessed.”
This Christmas as we reflect on Jesus, let us also consider Mary, and give thanks to God for her willingness to do the Father's will without hesitation.
May we be inspired to follow her example and allow Him to have His way in our lives as she allowed Him to have His way in hers.
