Checkmate

Checkmate by Rev. Bob Mitchell

Did you know that the word "Checkmate" comes from the Persian words "Shah mat" meaning, "The King is Dead"

What little I know about chess, I was taught, in High School by a friend, Marty. He taught me how the different players moved and that the strategy was to capture your opponent's king,

As we played, we seemed to be about even until I saw a great opportunity and captured his queen. I was ecstatic. I just knew that I would win soon. But, Marty kinda' grinned, moved a knight and said "Checkmate". In my hurry to capture his queen, I had left my king opened.

On Friday, Jesus was beaten, bruised, and hung on a cross. The devil and all the demons of hell said "We've got you". The king was dead. It was over.

But, on Sunday, Jesus stepped from the grave. CHECKMATE.

Death is dead.

Praise God!!!!
