Where the Spirit of the Lord Is

Where sin abounds, there is bondage to death.

People of faith in America are on their knees, beseeching the LORD in the behalf of this nation that was placed at HIS feet at its inception.

They are praying for a Third Great Awakening. Believers in Christ are imploring Him to send a Holy Spirit revival that ignites this nation once again as a firebrand for Christian truth, with a missionary fervor to see souls awakened to faith in JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR and LORD.

Will you join them? Will you lift up your voice in fervent supplication to our Holy God, beseeching Him to revive us again?

Pray over your nation. Pray over your state. Pray over your county. Pray over your city. Pray over your neighborhood. Pray over your school. Pray over your workplace. Pray over your home. Pray over your family. Pray over yourself--PRAY THAT JESUS CHRIST WILL BE LIFTED UP IN ALL THESE PLACES AND AROUND THE WORLD!

He Inhabits Our Praise

The immutable Word of our Holy God tells us that He inhabits the praise of His people.  (See Psalm 22:3.)

It's unfathomable but true that He is without beginning or end and He is alive forever. The majesty of His being is completely incomprehensible to us. If we did not have Jesus to represent the Lord on High to us, it would be impossible for us to fathom One who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent--who inhabits all space and time.

Yet we are told this Mighty God, this Everlasting Father, this Prince of Peace "inhabits the praise of His people." Though He is everywhere present, though His eye sees the entirety of time and space and eternity, He abides in a special way within the praise of those who extol Him.

When you or I, mere frail mortals that we are, lift up the glorious name of our blessed Savior, He is upon our lips! How this magnificent truth should transform us from doubt to hope, from weeping to rejoicing, from silence to praise!

Does a perplexity confront you that you have no ability to unravel on your own? Is a quagmire of convoluted and troublesome circumstances before you? Are you bound by your own limitations that render you helpless to remedy an unfortunate situation?

Then praise Jesus!

How can I praise Him for the difficulty that is undoing my marriage? How can I praise Him for the disease that is robbing my health? How can I praise Him for the habits that are destroying my children? How can I praise Him for the evil that is swallowing mankind?

DO NOT PRAISE HIM FOR THESE THINGS--PRAISE HIM IN SPITE OF THESE THINGS! PRAISE THE LORD BECAUSE HE IS WORTHY OF PRAISE!

He inhabits your praise. He dwells in your praise in a way that transcends circumstances.

When you evidence your complete trust in JESUS that supersedes the difficulty in your marriage, trust that supersedes the threat of disease, trust that supersedes the destruction before your eyes, trust that supersedes the evil that manifests around you--then you affirm that HIS WORTHINESS, HIS FAITHFULNESS, HIS POWER, HIS GLORY assure YOUR VICTORY!

He inhabits the praise of His people. Praise Him continually and His presence with you is assured. In His presence is the deliverance you seek.

Lydia, A Workplace Minister

"One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God." Acts 16:14

There was a business woman whom Paul encountered in Philippi named Lydia. She was an early church entrepreneur dealing in purple cloth, the most expensive type in the First Century Middle East. Most accounts believe this was Paul's first known convert. I find it interesting that his first known convert was a woman and an entrepreneur.

"We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home." Acts 16:13-15

This encounter with Lydia and her women associates ultimately opened the way for ministry in that region. God often worked in and through women in the early church. Lydia was an influential businesswoman, and the gospel was affecting all strata of society, just as it does today.

Lydia was a maker of beautiful cloth used mainly by members of the royal families and Roman senators who were required to have a purple band around the edge of their togas, or robes. Purple cloth was both valuable and expensive in the culture of the First Century. It was often worn as a sign of nobility or royalty. Lydia's ministry would have been to the upper class business community.

Evidence of her conversion was immediate. She told the men if they considered her a believer in the Lord, she would like for them to come and stay at her house. Evidently she had plenty of room to accommodate all four of them—Paul, Silas, Timothy, and Luke—were invited. She continued to urge them and they accepted her invitation and stayed at her house.

Lydia's heart was like the good soil in the parable of the sower. When she heard the word of God, she received it with joy and obeyed the words of the apostle.

Who are the "Lydias" God has placed in your circle of influence?

Pray that you will be the instrument, like Paul, to bring the gospel to influential women entrepreneurs among you, for they have opportunities for ministry that go far beyond what you, or they, can imagine.

Though your ministry must not be limited to them, it cannot exclude them, for perhaps, like Lydia, they will allow the LORD to use them to transform the lives they touch for HIS Kingdom's purposes.
