Chaplin vs. Einstein

"Those who compare themselves among themselves are not wise."
Or are they?
Albert Einstein to Charlie Chaplin: Einstein said that he was envious of Chaplin’s fame because without a word the world understood him.
Charlie Chaplin's response: “But your fame is even greater… the world admires you when nobody understands you."

1715
Hurricane Sinks Spanish Treasure Ships
A hurricane struck the east coast of Florida on this day in 1715, sinking 10 Spanish treasure ships and killing nearly 1,000 people. All of the gold and silver onboard at the time would not be recovered until 250 years later.
From 1701, Spain sent fleets of ships to the Western Hemisphere to bring back natural resources, including gold and silver. These groups of ships were heavily fortified against pirates, but there was little that could be done to protect them from bad weather.
On July 24, 10 Spanish ships and one French ship left Havana, Cuba, on their way to Europe, carrying tons of gold and silver coins, about 14 million pesos worth. The Spanish ships stayed very close to the Florida coast, as was the custom, while the French ship, the Grifon, ventured further out from the shore. A week later, as the ships were between Cape Canaveral and Fort Pierce, in modern-day Florida, the winds picked up dramatically.
The hurricane advanced quickly and, one by one, the ships were wrecked. The Nuestra Senora de la Regla sank, sending 200 people and 120 tons of coins to a watery grave. The Santa Cristo de San Ramon went down with 120 sailors aboard. In all, somewhere between 700 and 1,000 people lost their lives in the wrecks. Meanwhile, the Grifon was able to ride out the storm; most of its crew survived.
In the following months, Spanish officials in Havana sent ships to salvage the treasure. About 80 percent had been recovered by April 1716, but the rest remained lost until the 1960s.

We Can't Save Ourselves

"There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one,” Romans 3:9–12
We can't save ourselves.
We can't donate enough money to save ourselves.
We can't help enough people to save ourselves.
We can't avoid sin enough to save ourselves.
We can't speak enough truth to save ourselves.
We can't emulate JESUS sufficiently to save ourselves.
The only thing we can do is fall at HIS feed and ask HIM to bathe us in HIS shed blood, for it is only Calvary's flow that can wash away our sin.
LORD JESUS, we thank YOU for loving us so much that YOU left YOUR throne in Heaven, came to earth as a mere man, lived the perfect, sinless life we could not live and died for our sins that YOU did not commit.
Such love is beyond our ability to fathom. As YOUR WORD the BIBLE says, "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down HIS life for HIS friends."
Thank YOU for allowing us to be YOUR beloved friends. Because YOU sacrificed YOURSELF for us, may we place our lives at YOUR feet and devote them to YOUR service.
Whatever good YOU may accomplish through our surrendered lives, we will give YOU all the praise and all the glory.
Magnify YOURSELF through YOUR people, O Holy God!

Thoughts on Job 3:23-26

Thoughts on Job 3:23-26 by John W. Ritenbaugh
"Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has hedged in? (24) For my sighing comes before I eat, And my groanings pour out like water. (25) For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me. (26) I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, for trouble comes."
Job tried hard to project a certain image. This was not entirely wrong, but despite his righteousness, his projection was far from the perfection that he may have thought he was showing, as the testimony of his three "friends" indicates. In fact, it was fraught with a major failure in his heart, which God clearly saw and determined to cleanse him of.
Suddenly, Job's image of himself is shattered before his eyes. What is he to do? Should he defend his image of himself or repent? To repent may have been quite embarrassing, but as the story unfolds, we see that Job does not perceive that anything is wrong with him.
Even if something were wrong, it would have been a major embarrassment to have it exposed. He is so aware of himself as a human being that, for quite a while, he does not perceive that the problem resides in his heart. Therefore, he does what we all do: He defends and justifies himself.
The book of Job is the story of the destruction of Job's self-image. It can also be summed up as the book of human nature. His friends are unsuccessful in their efforts because they perceive his condition as being the result of the sins that he has committed; what he is going through is just retribution for conduct that Job has managed to hide from others for many years. However, God's comments to Satan in Job 1:8 and 2:3 reveal that this is not so: Job is an unusually righteous person, as far as the conduct of his life is concerned.
The problem is not what Job was doing but a flaw in what he was. His defect is not one of outward action but of inward thought, especially in how he perceived himself in relation to God, but also to fellow man. It is a matter of the heart.

Give Me Your Last Meal

Give Me Your Last Meal
From: Today God Is First by Os Hillman
July 31, 2020
"I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die" (1 Kings 17:12).
Imagine telling a widow who was about to eat her last meal with her only son to give you a portion of that meal. That would seem like a cruel and unusually selfish thing to do. Imagine you have a need for provision and God tells you to go to the most desperate person in the land to get your provision.
God led Elijah to a poor widow who was on her last meal of flour. Why would God lead Elijah from one desperate situation into another? He wished to perform yet another miracle and show His faithfulness to those who needed it most.
Elijah proceeded to tell the widow: "But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land'" (1 Kings 17:13-14).
Would you have questioned such logic in the face of a life-threatening situation? The woman demonstrated her faith in God and her confidence in the role God had placed upon Elijah by giving him her last meal. This act of faith insured that her provision would be there day after day. God multiplied her flour and her jug of oil. Provision followed obedience.
"For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah" (1 Kings 17:16).
God often multiplies what we already have in our hand in a miraculous way when we yield it to Him. God took her only resource just as He took the loaves and fishes, and multiplied it for those who were in need.
God has placed skills and resources in our hand already. We need to apply faith to that which He has placed in our hand in order to see His provision manifested through them.

Thoughts on Today's Verse

"For this world in its present form is passing away." 1 Corinthians 7:31
Thoughts on Today's Verse by Phil Ware
This often repeated theme in the New Testament and from the lips of Jesus should be the great reminder that we shouldn't spend our lives working for what is temporary.
My Prayer...
Lord God Almighty, the Alpha and the Omega, the Eternal I Am, thank you for being what everything else in the world cannot be.
Please awaken my heart to things of eternal significance and open my eyes so I can see through the things that are transitory. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

2020 U.S.A. CIVIL WAR???

2020 U.S.A. CIVIL WAR???
Think about this---really think about it---- This is a fascinating (and
scary) read. One of the best nutshell descriptions of our current
political situation in these United States.
Dr. Jack Devere Minzey, born 6 October 1928, died 8 April 2018, was the Department Head of Education at Eastern Michigan University as well as a prolific author of numerous books, most of which were on the topic of Education and the Government role therein. (Editor's note) This was the last of his works:
Civil War: How do civil wars happen? by Dr. Jack Devere Minzey
Two or more sides disagree on who runs the country. And they can't settle the question through elections because they don't even agree that elections are how you decide who's in charge. That's the basic issue here. Who decides who runs the country? When you hate each other but accept the election results, you have a country. When you stop accepting election results, you have a countdown to a civil war.
The Mueller investigation was about removing President Trump from office and overturning the results of an election. We all know that. But it's not the first time they've done this. The first time a Republican president was elected this century, they said he didn't really win. The Supreme Court gave him the election. There's a pattern here.
What do sure odds of the Democrats rejecting the next Republican president really mean? It means they don't accept the results of any election that they don't win. It means they don't believe that transfers of power in this country are determined by-elections. That's a civil war.
There's no shooting.
At least not unless you count the attempt to kill a bunch of Republicans at a charity baseball game practice.
The Democrats have rejected our system of government.
This isn't dissent. It's not disagreement. You can hate the other party. You can think they're the worst thing that ever happened to the country. But then you work harder to win the next election. When you consistently reject the results of elections that you don't win, what you want is a dictatorship. Your very own dictatorship.
The only legitimate exercise of power in this country, according to
Democrats, is its own. Whenever Republicans exercise power, it's
inherently illegitimate. The Democrats lost Congress. They lost the White House. So what did they do? They began trying to run the country through Federal judges and bureaucrats. Every time that a Federal judge issues an order saying that the President of The United States can't scratch his own back without his say so, that's the civil war.
Our system of government is based on the constitution, but that's not the system that runs this country. The Democrat's system is that any part of government that it runs gets total and unlimited power over the country.
If the Democrats are in the White House, then the president can do
anything. And I mean anything. He can have his own amnesty for illegal aliens. He can fine you for not having health insurance. He can use the IRS as his own police force and imprison citizens who speak against him. He can provide guns and money (Fast and Furious) (Iran nuclear deal) to other countries to support his own agenda, and watch while one of America's Ambassador's is dragged through the streets and murdered—the president (Obama) doing nothing to aid him or the citizens who came to his aid. His power is unlimited. He's a dictator.
But when Republicans get into the White House, suddenly the President can't do anything.
He isn't even allowed to undo the illegal alien amnesty that his predecessor illegally invented. A Democrat in the White House has 'discretion' to completely decide every aspect of immigration policy. A Republican doesn't even have the 'discretion' to reverse him.
That's how the game is played. That's how our country is run. Sad but true, although the left hasn't yet won that particular fight--yet.
When a Democrat is in the White House, states aren't even allowed to enforce immigration law. But when a Republican is in the White House, states can create their own immigration laws. Under Obama, a state wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom without asking permission. But under Trump, Jerry Brown can go around saying that California is an independent republic and sign treaties with other countries The Constitution has something to say about that.
Whether it's Federal or State, Executive, Legislative or Judiciary, the left moves power around to run the country. If it controls an institution, then that institution is suddenly the supreme power in the land. This is what I call a moving dictatorship.
Donald Trump has caused the Shadow Government to come out of hiding: Professional government is a guild. Like medieval guilds. You can't serve in it if you're not a member. If you haven't been indoctrinated into its arcane rituals. If you aren't in the club. And Trump isn't in the club. He brought in a bunch of people who aren't in the club with him.
Now we're seeing what the pros do when amateurs try to walk in on them. They spy on them, they investigate them and they send them to jail. They use the tools of power to bring them down. That's not a free country.
It's not a free country when FBI agents who support Hillary take out an 'insurance policy' against Trump winning the election.
It's not a free country when Obama officials engage in massive unmasking of the opposition.
It's not a free country when the media responds to the other guy winning by trying to ban the conservative media that supported him from social media.
It's not a free country when all of the above collude together to overturn an election because the guy who wasn't supposed to win did.
Have no doubt, we're in a civil war between conservative volunteer
government and a leftist socialist Democrat professional government.
Well now Pilgrims and Patriots, having read the above, I suggest two things: forward this very timely, very important analysis to those whom you believe think as you do (and those that don't) and ask them to read it.
There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

Acts 1:10,11

“And while they were gazing into heaven as He went, behold, two angels stood by them in white robes, and said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you have seen Him go into heaven.”

Quote from C.S. Lewis

“Jesus’ teaching on the subject quite clearly consisted
of three propositions:
1. That he will certainly return.
2. That we cannot possibly find out when.
3. And that therefore we must always be ready for him.”
C. S. Lewis
ARE YOU READY?

Intentional Destruction by Fear

Intentional Destruction by Fear
As we unpack the COVID 19 pandemic, Americans are going to find that false information, lies, false science, and sinister deep state-like forces are destroying our lives for political and personal gain.
I know this is a bold, controversial statement. Consider, however, how ruthlessly the left, the media, and the deep state prosecuted an anti-globalist President who threatened their power. That didn’t work, so they turned on the citizenry.
Democrat politicians and globalists demanded closing businesses, put us under house arrest, shifted food distribution networks so food prices skyrocketed, infected nursing homes, and now are promoting violence. The intentional destruction by fear collapsing the American way of life.
Dr. Anthony Codevilla, senior fellow at the conservative think tank Claremon Institute, in his powerful essay about “The COVID Coup,” wrote, “By intentionally reducing the supply of food available to the population, the US government joined the ranks of such as Stalin’s Soviet Union and Castro’s Cuba.”
The shutdown of medical care except for COVID cost countless lives.
Over 40 million people are out of work.
Small businesses, the engine of our economy, have been permanently shuttered.
Codevilla, wrote “In sum, the lockdowns have been perpetuated and prolonged by people who care more about your compliance than your health.”
Codevilla writes, “Support for the lockdowns has become as integral to the American Establishment Left, i.e., to the Democratic Party, as belief in abortion, global warming, open borders, and censorship of whatever they choose to call “hate speech.”
To understand this, one must realize that the ruling class’s campaign regarding public health, global warming, race, the rights of women, homosexuals, micro-aggressions, the Palestinians, etc. etc. have far less to do with any of these matters than with seizing ever more power for itself.”
He says, “The existing party sentiment and like-mindedness were enough to produce the unanimity and uniformity with which the ruling class has used the COVID-19 event to produce, stoke, and maintain fear, to energize its constituencies’ agendas in pursuit of its power.”
He says, “The prospect of locking down the country, ostensibly to save it from COVID-19, offered a near monopoly of communications.
Trump’s rallies were shut down.
Above all, churches were shut down, as well as the countless meetings of clubs, businesses, friends, etc. that are the lifeblood of what one might call the country class.”
Codevilla concludes: “The experts who made this happen stigmatized, tried to silence, and effectively criminalized dissent as dangerous to health and, of course, as racist. But there is zero evidence that all or any of the above measures increased anybody’s life expectancy, and plenty to the contrary. They wronged America.”
This has been a terrible time in American history.
Our Republic is in shambles. Unless we take back what has been taken from us, we will live under a new normal of heavy handed of tyranny.
In all his steadfast standing against the deep state, the communistic Democratic Party, and the news media, President Trump was driven by these events and deceivers through a slaughter house gate that shut down America, and put us all under house arrest because of fear of a flu.
But it is not yet checkmate, if we can rise up and do the right thing. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”
In this age of deception, we need to: Wake up; Stand up; Say “NO MORE”; Fear not; and revive the spirit of our nation by boldly standing and saying “Enough is Enough.”

Supreme Court Sides with Casinos

Supreme Court Sides with Casinos
The Supreme Court has rejected the plea of a Nevada congregation to suspend state-imposed restrictions on in-person gatherings that only apply to faith communities and not secular entities. In a 5-4 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts joined liberal justices to deny an appeal of Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in Lyon County, whose plea had been rejected by lower courts, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The church argued that Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak's public-health orders gave casinos and other secular businesses greater leeway than houses of worship, which are prohibited from conducting in-person worship services with more than 50 people.
Calvary Chapel wanted to hold services for up to 90 members, 50% capacity, while fully complying with social-distancing rules and other required measures.
The judges made no comment while rejecting the appeal. This is the second time that Chief Justice Roberts has joined liberal justices to uphold restrictions on churches during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Apostles' Creed

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic (universal) Church,
the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

He Shall Return

He Shall Return
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
As Christians we have an incredible event to anticipate—Christ’s second coming. Why do we know this will happen? Because more than three hundred times in the New Testament, the Scriptures very boldly state that Jesus Christ will return; even more prophecies are found in the Old Testament concerning His second Advent.
And Jesus Himself declared it unequivocally, “I will come again, and receive you unto myself.” History marches on to that very moment; His return will be the great climax of all time.
Are you ready for it?
Every Sunday for centuries, the Christian Church around the world has confirmed Christ’s second coming.
In the Apostles’ Creed, we declare, “From thence He (Jesus) shall come to judge the quick and the dead.”
This is confirmed by the Nicene Creed, the Constantinople Creed, the Westminster Confession, the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Church of England, the Augsburg Confession, and all of the other great confessions of the Church. Jesus Christ is coming back to this world.
Are you prepared?
Although we know for certain that this event will happen, we don’t know when.
Numerous people have claimed to figure out the exact day and time. (Imagine that—the angels don’t even know, but people rush in where angels fear to tread, and they proclaim both year and date.) But the Scripture says that Jesus will come at an hour when we won’t expect Him. He’ll come suddenly, like a thief in the night. He might come today or a thousand years from now.
Either way we must be ready. Would you want the Lord to come today? Are you ready to be in His presence? From now on, live each day as if it’s the day He’ll return.

Three Miracles You Can Expect When You Embrace God’s Mission

Three Miracles You Can Expect When You Embrace God’s Mission
by Rick Warren
“The sailors were awestruck by the LORD’s great power, and they offered him a sacrifice and vowed to serve him.” Jonah 1:16
When you embrace God’s mission for your life, miracles happen.
You can see this in the life of Jonah. God told him to warn the people of Nineveh that judgment was near, but Jonah didn’t want to do it. So he ran in the opposite direction and boarded a ship to Tarshish, far away from where God wanted him to be.
In order to get Jonah back on mission, God sent a violent storm to stop the ship. “‘Throw me into the sea,’ Jonah said, ‘and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault’” (Jonah 1:12).
When Jonah finally obeyed God, three miracles happened. These same miracles will happen as you embrace God’s mission for your life.
1.
God ended the storm the moment Jonah was tossed into the sea. God has a purpose for the storms you face in life. He may be trying to get your attention. His purpose is always greater than your problem. When you accept God’s mission, he’ll calm the storm sent to get your attention.
2.
You probably have a friend or relative who isn’t a follower of Jesus. Have you ever thought you might be affecting their willingness to put their trust in Jesus? Maybe your life and your choices are keeping them from coming to Christ. When you finally give 100 percent to God, your loved one will want what you have.
3.
Some people think that if they come back and embrace God’s mission, he’ll punish them for all the time they wasted. That’s just not true.
Embracing God’s unique mission for your life is the best decision you can ever make. He wants you to fulfill your mission, so he will welcome you back with open arms...
and...Miracles will follow.

Excerpt from Paper

Today's use of paper includes everything from students' homework to grocery lists to paper airplanes to complicated mathematical and scientific equations. It has not always been so.
Excerpt from Paper
Paper made its first appearance in Europe in the 11th century, but was expensive and suffered from poor quality. By the 15th century, it was inexpensive and of good quality, and that dramatically changed the level of Renaissance art:
"Paper created a monumental shift in European art. ... Drawing is a primal urge, ... but drawing only became a standard art form when paper became available. In the case of Europe, this occurred during the Renaissance, when paper was still a new idea on the Continent.
Previously, there had been very little informal use of parchment for art because it was too expensive and too difficult to erase. At first, European paper was also too expensive to be used to dash off a quick sketch and had too low a standing to be used for serious art. But by the late fifteenth century, this had all changed.
Paper opened up the possibility of the sketch. Renaissance artists sketched out their work before they drew, painted, or sculpted it -- or, in the case of Albrecht Dürer's woodcuts, carved it. This new ability to not only plan but toy with ideas raised their art to a level not known in the Middle Ages.
"Artists drew and sketched with varying degrees of skill. Leonardo da Vinci was legendary for his skills as a draftsman. Michelangelo, known for his frescoes and sculptures, was equally brilliant as a draftsman -- many art historians consider him to have been the greatest draftsman who ever lived -- though most of his drawing was scribbled chaotically on sheets of paper not intended for public view.
"Sixteenth-century artist and historian Giorgio Vasari, whose Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects is the leading source of biographical information on the Italian Renaissance artists, tells the story of a sketch by Michelangelo that was displayed in the Palazzo Medici for art students to copy. Since the sheet, like most of Michelangelo's sheets, had a variety of sketches on it, students started tearing off pieces of it, and they became 'scattered over many places.' According to Vasari, those fortunate students who ended up with a remnant treasured it and regarded it as something 'more divine than human.'
"Michelangelo used a great deal of paper, [and] ... almost any piece of paper he used contained a few sketches. A few are finished drawings. A stunning drawing of the resurrection of Christ is also marked with a shopping list. Masterful drawings were folded up, with notes about the banal ephemera of everyday life jotted on the reverse side. ...
"Michelangelo may have been among the first to jot down quick ideas for himself. Some 2,000 letters from and to Michelangelo have also been collected. Letter writing is another practice that blossomed with the widespread use of paper.
"Leonardo da Vinci was notorious in his lifetime for his inability to complete projects. ... Fortunately, there was paper, on which Leonardo could capture his genius.
Though he is usually thought of as a painter, only fifteen paintings, some unfinished, have been found, along with two damaged murals. He also attempted some sculpture, though he never finished one piece.
But he left behind thirty bound notebooks. Unlike Michelangelo, he did want people to see this work on paper, including the notes he made in his mirror-image script -- a curious response to being left-handed. He left drawings depicting all kind of inventions, and notes on literature, arts, mythology, anatomy, engineering, and, most of all nature....
"Leonardo also left behind four thousand sheets of drawings of staggering beauty. He was the first artist to be recognized for his drawings on paper. Leonardo's work became the standard for art in Renaissance Florence.
Studying art now meant working on paper, learning to draw. Leonardo had learned art that way himself, in the workshop taught by Andrea del Verrocchio. Artists have been trained on paper ever since."

Hostile Democrats

Hostile Democrats
Attorney General William Barr was repeatedly berated during his hearing in front of the Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday with Democratic members of the committee repeatedly cutting him off and not allowing him to answer questions.
The attacks on Barr were so hostile that even CNN made note of it, writing that that “Democrats were out for blood.”
“Democrats repeatedly cut off Barr’s responses, accused him of being wrong or lying and made clear they weren’t interested in the explanations he was offering,” CNN reported. “Barr wasn’t allowed extra time at the end of each lawmaker’s five minutes to respond to questions that witnesses typically receive — forcing Republicans to use their time to let Barr push back on the Democratic accusations.”
During the hearing, Barr specifically called out the Democratic Party for widely failing to condemn violent extremists attacking a federal courthouse in Portland amid a series of riots that have lasted over 60 consecutive days. Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) even claimed at the start of the week that the violence in Portland was “a myth.”
“What makes me concerned for the country is, this is the first time in my memory that the leaders of one of our great two political parties, the Democratic Party, are not coming out and condemning mob violence and the attack on federal courts,” Barr said. “Why can’t we just say: ‘Violence against federal courts has to stop?’ Could we hear something like that?”

First Legislative Assembly in America Convenes in Jamestown
In Jamestown, Virginia, the first elected legislative assembly in the New World—the House of Burgesses—convened in the choir of the town’s church.
Earlier that year, the London Company, which had established the Jamestown settlement 12 years before, directed Virginia Governor Sir George Yeardley to summon a “General Assembly” elected by the settlers, with every free adult male voting.
Twenty-two representatives from the 11 Jamestown boroughs were chosen, and Master John Pory was appointed the assembly’s speaker. On July 30, the House of Burgesses (an English word for “citizens”) convened for the first time.
Its first law, which, like all of its laws, would have to be approved by the London Company, required tobacco to be sold for at least three shillings per pound. Other laws passed during its first six-day session included prohibitions against gambling, drunkenness and idleness, and a measure that made Sabbath observance mandatory.
The creation of the House of Burgesses, along with other progressive measures, made Sir George Yeardley exceptionally popular among the colonists, and he served two terms as Virginia governor.
