Colossians 1:15-17 expounds upon an amazing assertion regarding the nature and character of Jesus Christ. Here we are told, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation…He is before all things and by Him, all things exist.”
Incredible! The Lord is the express representation of the Triune God! Although He is the Creator, He is the Word spoken into the void of nothingness at the onset of creation, yet He allows Himself to be called the ‘firstborn of creation.’
He is the One who fashioned the universe by the word of His mouth and formulated the plan of salvation whereby He would become the sinless sacrifice that redeems fallen man from sin by His shed blood—HE proclaimed it to be so.
The totality of existence is encompassed in His Word that enabled the heaven and earth to become distinct entities, the waters of the sea to be separated from the dry land, and for frail humankind, His highest creation, to inherit eternity.
