Just who is God—in your eyes? Yes, you. You, average, busy, patriotic, church-going American. If you had to write a description of God, how would He look? Long, white beard, piercing blue eyes, aquiline nose, stern facial demeanor, flowing robe, surrounded by emanating beams of light that exceed the brightness of the sun? Is this how you see Jesus; how you see your Savior?
How would you describe His character? Wrathful? Demanding? Old fashioned? Arrogant? Or, perhaps you would be more generous with Him. He’s lovely, wise, righteous, understanding, self-sacrificing, forgiving, holy. Would any of that make it into your word picture of the Almighty?
Maybe you vacillate between the divergent aspects of God that you think might be incorporated into His character or His appearance. Perhaps His eye color and facial features--even His character--are a little like your own. He could be your dad or your uncle. Maybe He looks like the kindest person you’ve ever known. But you’re not sure.
And the most pressing of your doubts are those relating to how He feels about you. Are His words of love and salvation true? In 1 Kings 18:21, we are given some profound advice. It asks, “How long will you hesitate between two opinions?” Then comes the answer, “If God is God, follow Him…” Plunge into Christ’s deep well of salvation and be washed free of not only sin but also of doubt.
