Only ONE

Ezra 8:21-23 New International Version (NIV)

21 There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. 22 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to Him, but His great anger is against all who forsake Him. 23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and He answered our prayer.

Some trust in chariots and some trust in horses, but we will remember the name of the LORD OUR GOD. Psalm 20:7

Where do we place our trust? Where do we anchor our hope? As Ezra observed, it is tenuous to place our confidence in the protection of the government. The government mocks us for our faith in our GOD. Our government cannot be trusted to support us in our commitment to our SAVIOR.

Those who trust in the war arsenals of our day find themselves wondering as did the Psalmist whether those mighty battle machines, the steeds of war and the war machines designed to mow down anything in their path as were the chariots of the enemy in days gone by can possibly be a source of confidence today.

Like them, we must conclude that there is nothing, there is no one, in whom we may confidently place our trust but in the HOLY ONE HIMSELF!

We rely on HIS ASSURANCE THAT HE WILL NEVER FAIL US NOR FORSAKE US. Hebrews 13:5

We rest in perfect confidence in CHRIST ALONE.
