You don't owe anyone an explanation for the choices you make, for the goals you pursue, for the things you value. But you will stand accountable before SOMEONE one day for all those things.
God has given you a free will. That free will assures you of the right to determine your choices, your goals, your values. But God has also given you an insight into Himself that enables you to pattern your decisions in life after the model He has revealed to you.
Because you have seen Jesus, because you know the things He values, because you understand His view of sin, BECAUSE YOU KNOW HE DIED TO SET YOU FREE FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN, should you not therefore reorient your choices and your goals after the model He has given to you?
No, you don't have to. You owe no one an explanation for who you
decide to be, for what you decide to believe, for how you decide to
live.
But you do owe SOMEONE an accounting for the entirety of your life. On the day you stand before Him, the only escape you will have for any wrong you may have done because of the choices you made will be the one decision you make--to place your life at the feet of Jesus and accept the cleansing He provided for you at Calvary.
