April 1
“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Psalm 14:1
Believing in traditional Christianity is something else, Scalia said, referencing beliefs such as God being born the son of a virgin, and the concept of heaven and hell, he affirmed, would be widely discredited by scoffers.
“God assumed from the beginning that the wise of the world would view Christians as fools ... and he has not been disappointed,” Scalia said. “If I have brought any message today, it is this: Have the courage to have your wisdom regarded as stupidity. Be fools for Christ; have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated world.”
If someone of the intellectual acumen of Judge Antonin Scalia was prepared to be thought a fool because of his belief in Christ, perhaps the rest of professing Christians should not be surprised if we are, too.
Today is “April Fools’ Day.” If trusting Jesus for our eternal salvation makes us foolish, may every day be April Fools’ Day for us.
