Twenty Years Ago
Twenty years ago today, you awoke to the normalcy of life. You had breakfast, battled traffic, went to work, and thought of what you'd do when you returned home that evening.
But then someone who had heard the news informed you that one of the Twin Towers had been struck by an airplane. You were shocked but continued the task at hand.
Then the second tower was hit and you knew the world had changed.
Those who could, flocked to a nearby TV to see the unthinkable being shown over and over again. You stood by as you saw President Bush being informed as he was surrounded by elementary school students while on a visit to Florida. You heard that the airports were shut down. Utter disbelief invaded your sensibilities.
You and countless Americans vowed you would never forget.
Here you are, twenty years later. How real are the events you witnessed over and over again that day? How real is the promise you made to never forget the horror of the experience that unfolded before a stunned populace?
How real is the patriotism you felt as you unfurled Old Glory on your front porch and flew the colors from your vehicle?
Are you still standing up for the greatest nation the earth has ever seen -- or have you forgotten?
