God places a high premium upon integrity. It is His desire that a man’s “yea be yea and his nay be nay,” James 5:12. We are, in this same passage, told that we needn’t swear by anything if our word is our bond as the Lord would have it to be.
Our word should be as steadfast in our personal lives as it is in a court of law. Our marriage vows must be given with the utmost intention of keeping them for the entirety of our lives.
Proverbs 3:3, 4 says, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
Even if the world mocks our integrity as man slips further and further down the slippery slope of deception and dishonor, we will have favor and a good name in the sight of God. As Peter said in Acts 5:29, “It is better to obey God than man.”
