The God we serve loves all of mankind. He desires that everyone ever born would love Him and receive the free gift of salvation that has been provided by the Lord Jesus Christ. If a man simply turns his back on the best deal ever conceived, he has robbed himself of the only thing in life that can accrue unto his eternal wealth and well-being.
Of course, it’s not always easy to perceive the great advantage that a man of faith in Jesus possesses. In fact, it’s easy to look around and conclude that there is no advantage at all. There are people who have great wealth and power who don’t claim even a nodding acquaintance with the Lord and have no desire to gain one.
But, when the day of reckoning finally comes—whether the Rapture, when all believers will be taken up with the Lord in the clouds and will forever be with Him, or whether the day each individual keeps his appointment with death (Hebrews 9:27), everyone who has ever walked in a tabernacle of flesh will stand face-to-face before his Maker.
With that reality in mind, the Word affirms to all men in Psalm 31: 23, “Love the Lord, all His saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, but the proud He pays back in full.” This is not a paycheck we want to collect! May our dear and precious Savior give the faithful heart to each believer that overcomes pride and disdains its recompense.
