Persuaded

June 5

Faith. What an amazing word. It flies in the face of all we’ve trained ourselves to do and to be. One thing we as individuals living on a fallen planet require of virtually everyone and everything with which we associate ourselves is ‘proof.’

We’re not inclined to take anything for granted. Before investing our money into a venture, we research it carefully to assure ourselves that our outlay of cash will indeed be safe. Whether a stock investment or an automobile purchase, we investigate their claims and records before purchasing.

Trust is in short supply in our world of ponzie schemes and falling real estate values. But, trust is something that the Lord requires of those who profess to believe in Him. Because we are so accustomed to disappointment in those people and things in which we have placed our trust, it’s difficult to wrap our thinking around One who will never let us down, One who will not fail or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

In fact, Hebrews 11:1 goes so far as to say that, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” That certainty isn’t because we’ve investigated our circumstances and concluded that things will turn out to our liking; rather, our assurance comes because we, “know WHOM we have believed and are persuaded that HE IS ABLE TO KEEP THAT WHICH WE’VE COMMITTED TO HIM,” (II Timothy 1:12).
