I Peter 1:21 states something quite profound. It says, “Through Christ you believe in God who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him, so your faith and hope are in God.”
Yes, Jesus came to pay the penalty for our sin. He sacrificed His sinless life so our wretched, sin-filled lives could be redeemed. Yes, we know that only a God-Man could do that, for our human race is steeped in sin. Only God, taking upon Himself the tabernacle of flesh, could be the sinless sacrifice His holiness requires.
And it would not be enough were this precious sacrifice to remain in the tomb—consumed forever as the countless, spotless lambs sacrificed through the centuries until Jesus came as the final, complete, eternal sacrifice. The God who loves us and desires to dwell eternally with us had to do something to get our attention, to inspire our faith!
He accomplished that by the glorious miracle of raising Jesus from the dead. When our Savior emerged from the tomb—the most-well-documented event in antiquity—we were given every reason to believe, to accept His propitiatory death and resurrection in our behalf, to place our hope in Him forever and be on our way to dwell with God eternally!
