Otto Warmbier

North Korea

North Korea imposed a death sentence upon this young man.

What was his crime?

Did he murder a North Korean citizen?
Did he endeavor to rob a North Korean bank?
Did he force his attention upon a young North Korean lady?
Did he denigrate the North Korean leadership?

Otto Warmbier went to North Korea to learn more about the nation and its people. In his youthful exuberance, he desired to further understanding between the people of our country and the people of this sequestered state.

If he "stole" anything, it was a poster, a propaganda poster, which perhaps he thought would open a window of insight into the mind and heart of the people, of the government of North Korea.

For having that poster in his possession, he was arrested, tried, tortured, convicted, sentenced.

For having that poster in his possession, he was sent home in a coma.

For having that poster in his possession, he was unable to respond to the love that was lavished upon him by his parents when he was finally returned to them.

For having that poster in his possession, he was not able to say goodbye to the family that loves him when he slipped into eternity.

He was an idealistic 22 year old when he went to North Korea.

He was a vegetable when he came home.

Otto Warmbier paid a very high price for desiring to open a door of communication and understanding between people.

BREAKING: Otto Warmbier, the 22-year-old college student who was held in North Korea for 17 months before coming home last Tuesday, has died, according to his family. Warmbier suffered a devastating brain injury while being held prisoner and was in an unresponsive state when he was flown home.
