We Changed

WE CHANGED

"There is nothing new under the sun."

The obvious truth stated in the BIBLE is one that today's world finds hard to accept and very difficult to believe. Today's world asserts its own truth while it tramples upon the wisdom of the ages.

As this sheriff (Washington, after latest school shooting) affirms, "Guns didn't change. We changed." He makes a viable point that few are ready to receive.

It's easy to believe that if there were stricter gun laws, there would be less gun violence, but those who believe that erroneous drivel are overlooking the facts.

One such fact is that in our bastions of liberal thought, our cities that are run by liberal mayors and councilmen, there are extremely strict laws regarding gun ownership--and it is in those very cities where the preponderance of our gun-related crimes are committed.

The sheriff's assertion that we have changed is spot-on.

How have we changed?

Perhaps the most important change is that we are no longer a "religious" people. Our founding fathers established our nation upon the immutable WORD of the LIVING GOD. Although it is not named in our Constitution, BIBLICAL truth girds our law.

Where once we were "people of the BOOK," we no longer adhere to the LORD'S HOLY BOOK as our ultimate guide and as the ultimate guardian of our values.

Our Churches, once central to our nationhood, have become vacant buildings or have been taken over as community centers or warehouses.

Have we changed? If we haven't, then de Tocqueville's comment, "AMERICA IS A NATION WITH THE SOUL OF A CHURCH," will still ring true to us.

Does it?

Or does it make us cringe in embarrassment at the thought?
