Love
Love is a hard word to deal with. It's hard because the world we live in offers us few models of what love is. It's difficult to receive love when it's given and it's difficult to give love -- simply because it's virtually unrecognizable.
If we have a notion of what love is and how it is to be received and given, it's probably because we've watched a lot of Hollywood movies. We must reach a great level of maturity before we come to realize that Hollywood has virtually no concept of what love is.
By our acceptance of the propaganda that comes out of Tinsel-Town, we delude ourselves into believing a lie about love.
We believe that love is physical intimacy. Today's young people are so duped by the Hollywood myth that they have dubbed their sexual liaisons as "friends with benefits." Those "benefits" might include STDs or unwanted pregnancy, but if the sex was good...
The Word of GOD tells us that "GOD IS LOVE."
What does that mean?
Ultimately, it means that any emotion that does not have the LORD at its heart cannot be love.
Are you willing to settle for Hollywood's version of love? Are you willing to settle for a love that's based on how beautiful you are or how provocative you can be or how many eyes turn in your direction when you enter a room?
If you are, the next question you must ask yourself is, "How well will I be loved when my beauty fades (as it inevitably will)? How well will I be loved when I'm no longer considered to be sexy? How well will I be loved when my presence in a room attracts no notice?"
But if you want love, that love the BIBLE tells us "never fails," I Corinthians 13:8, there is only one place to find it, and that is in the SAVIOR who died for you.
