A young woman was in the seventh month of her pregnancy when her doctor told her that she had a deteriorating kidney. He found her situation so severe that he could offer only two alternatives.
Her first option was to begin dialysis treatments immediately, which
would kill her baby and her second option was to forgo treatment for the
sake of the baby and have her kidneys fail.
This was shocking news--certainly not what she expected to hear when she went in for a routine exam.
Upon her arrival home, she phoned her husband who was at work and wept out her sad news. His response, probably out of shocked disbelief, was to say something less than comforting.
The phone call was brief and the woman resumed her uncontrollable weeping. She had recently had an horrific dream in which she had lost her baby. The doctor's pronouncement that morning seemed a confirmation of the fear instilled by the terrible dream.
Her husband, a man of profound faith in JESUS, called her within a few minutes of her call to him, this time with words of comfort. He said, "I've just gone to a quiet place to pray and the LORD spoke to me and told me that you are going to be fine and the baby is going to be fine."
His wife's reaction was less than enthusiastic because the fear had entrenched itself. Her anxiety continued until her next visit to the doctor when subsequent tests all showed that her kidney function was normal and that her unborn child was healthy.
Many years later, this young mother has still not required dialysis and her baby now has babies of his own.
Does your need seem beyond remedy?
The HEALER who walked the dusty streets of Galilee, the HEALER who never turned anyone away who came to HIM diseased and broken, is still in the healing business today.
Isaiah 53:5 says, "BY HIS STRIPES, WE ARE HEALED." Those words were true when the prophet penned them and they are still true today.
