Prayer Initiative

The Family

Suggested Scriptural references ... You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it:  You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.  Matthew 22:37-40
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity.  Psalm 133:1
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.  Husbands love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.  Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.  Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.  Colossians 3:18-21
Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, and that their children who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God.. Deuteronomy 31:12-13
Suggested prayers ... We pray for Your hand of healing, restoration and protection on family and families in America, including my own.
Thank You for designing a beautiful plan for family.  Thank You for the self-giving love of a man for his wife, and a wife for her husband. Thank You for the love of children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Father, we pray that when conflicts arise in our marriages and families we would find our way to You, the Author of love in the first place.  Give us Your direction, correction and protection, Father.  Give us understanding and compassion for our family members, and the will to forgive as You forgive us.
We pray in thanksgiving for the dignity and sanctity of homes that honor and love You.  Show us, Father, how to best love and care for our elderly family members.
Your prophet, Hosea said that those who bear illigitimate children go against You, O God. We grieve over the 40+% of  children in America who are entering this world without the security of a father to provide, protect and love them.  Show us what we need to do to restore our culture and rebuild the human family as You created it to be. Turn the hearts of fathers and mothers to their children.
We pray for the renewal of virtue and self control in our young.  Please give them compellingly attractive examples of these qualities.  Make us good examples, Lord.
Show us, Lord, how to build homes as sanctuaries of security, stability and strength.
We pray for Your protection for the institution of family. Convict and correct those who would diminish or destroy the institution that is the bedrock of our country.
Lead us to cherish and protect marital fidelity, preserving the foundation of families and the nation.
Protect our children, Lord, from the sins of their parents.  We ask You, Father, to show us how to break the chains of the sins of the generations that have been visited upon us.  We plead with You, Lord, to heal and restore our marriages and families.
Help me, Lord, to influence my family by speaking Your Truth and Your love into their daily lives.
Bind our families together with Your unfailing love and protect our families from government intrusion.
For our own families, we pray, Lord, asking You to draw each one to Your Spirit, Your heart, Your mind, and Your purposes and plans for our lives.  Knowing that Yours is a good plan for a future and a hope, we pray for each one to know the security, the stability, the strength, the comfort and the joy of living in genuine relationship with You in this life as well as the next.
We thank You for Your love, Father of us all.  Teach us how to love as You love.
