Why?

You might wonder why this is being posted in October. Well, it's because the department stores will soon be decorating for Christmas.

You'll be able to purchase indoor and outdoor lights and decorations, real and artificial Christmas trees, toys of every kind for the precious children in your lives...

...And you'll start your Christmas baking early so you can relax and enjoy the holiday when it finally arrives at the end of December.

It's also posted to prepare you for the "Happy Holidays" greeting with which you'll be met by many of your friends and acquaintances as well as the "Happy Holidays" posters that will be flashing brightly throughout the stores where you'll shop.

Don't be deceived by what you'll see. Those flashing red and green signs are not proclaiming the birth of CHRIST. No. They are declaring the national preoccupation with consumerism, with self-indulgence, with conspicuous consumption. with the new national religion of faith in the almighty dollar.

And this is not to suggest that you should not enjoy the lights and the gifts and the family gatherings. This is to say, "If you are indeed a believer in the atoning, sacrificial death of JESUS in your behalf, then let your celebration focus upon HIM. Let your celebration find you and your loved ones sharing the joy of HIS birth and the unspeakable gift of HIS death for you, and the glory of HIS resurrection."
