PRAY FOR OUR NATION Subject: Prayer in Kansas Senate This interesting prayer was given in Kansas, USA, at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard: "Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says: "Woe to those who call evil good", but that is exactly what we have done. * We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. * We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism. * We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism. * We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle. * We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. * We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. * We have killed our unborn and called it choice. * We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. * We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. * We have abused power and called it politics. * We have embezzled public funds and called it essential expenses. * We have institutionalized bribery and called it sweets of office. * We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. *We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. * We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh GOD, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!" The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea. With the LORD'S help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and WHOLEHEARTEDLY become our desire so that we again can be called "ONE NATION UNDER GOD." Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your list, in less than 30 days it would be heard by the world. How many people on your list will not receive this prayer. II Chronicles 7:14 says, "If MY people, who are called by MY name, will humble themselves and pray and seek MY face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land. That's our only hope. LORD JESUS, YOU see the pervasive sin that threatens our land with destruction, but I remind YOU that most of the people in this country love YOU and claim JESUS as their SAVIOR. The evidence is within this message -- those who favored this glorious prayer for repentance and forgiveness far outnumber those who were offended by this pastor's righteous words. I also remind YOU that the founding fathers of this land placed this nation at YOUR feet at its inception. I beg YOU to let YOUR HOLY SPIRIT sweep through this nation that YOU have blessed beyond all others and turn our hearts back to YOU. I pray that YOU restore our respect for law and order and justice and truth and righteousness and holiness and love. I pray that everyone who enters these borders will be compelled to seek honor and justice -- beginning in themselves, including those who come illegally. May they be so struck by their thievery that they cannot step across the border. I pray that everyone who surrenders himself to theft or hatred or murderous intent will feel a revulsion of his inner darkness and immerse himself into YOUR glorious light. We need YOU, JESUS. Help us to see our lost condition without YOU and let us make receiving YOU to ourselves the only priority of our lives. It is in YOUR mighty, matchless name we pray, JESUS. Amen.
